I know you’re not supposed to - but has anyone tried washing one of the coated Cath Kidston handbags? 🤔

I’ve sponged one inside and out, it came up really well.

Thanks.👍 I was wondering about putting it in the washing machine with mild washing liquid.

I have a Kath Kidston spotty bag.
I only wipe it down. I wouldn't put the bag in the washing machine. That would be too harsh and probably ruin it.

I did the same as Lady Gracie, then hung it on the washing line, pegged open, to air dry.

I think the coating could deteriorate in a washing machine, it definitely needs to be gently hand washed, washing machines are never gentle.

I think it would be OK on a short wash, no spin.

I have a vague memory that when DD was injured in a car accident 15 years ago and bled all over her much loved swimming bag, I put that through the washing machine several times in order to get all the staining completely out so that she could continue using it without any stains constantly reminding her of her trauma.

I just looked on the CK website, it states that their bags should definitely not go in the washing machine.

They need to be sponged with mild detergent, do not soak them or get them overly wet, and left to dry naturally.

This is typical of the 'cover our backs' s advice given by many organisations dealing with fabrics.

As I said, in exceptional circumstances I put a Cath Kidston plastic backed bag through the washing machine withut ill effect.

Advice for a friend please.
She’s been married 13 years, after 4 years together. Last 6 years at least no physical contact between her and her husband, no affection whatsoever. Husband treats her well otherwise but recently has started to be spiteful with words.
In meantime she’s back in touch with an ex , who she finished with but regretted it and he wants her back. She’s not seen him physically but on FaceTime and all their old feelings are back.
She is thinking of leaving her marriage now as her husband shows no interest in her.
I’m 50/50 as to what I think 🤷‍♀️

Should this be a thread of its own?

You will have move your post from this handbag thread otherwise you won't get any replies.
You need to start a new thread with it's own heading. smile

Yes she should definitely leave her husband. Life is too short to not be happy.

I also have one of those Cath Kidston bags and put it in the washing machine on a 15 minute wash, then put it in the airing cupboard for a few days to dry it out. This is the second time I have done this and it is still perfectly fine. smile

and the micro plastics in the coating go into the water cycle

Well, DD's bag went through several hot washes, with and without stain remover as I tried to clean up her swimming bag after her road accident. While she was in hospital she became obsessed about still having her CK swimming bag wirh a swimming type theme, even if her car was a write off, and I was determined to get rid of every blood stain so that she wouldn't carry a constant reminder of the event on the bag.

The bag survived unmarked and unharmed.
