Glass Food Storage

I bought two Luminarc oblong glass storage containers, for fridge or microwave. Problem is the plastic lids are stiff to get off. It is inconvenient to have to run them under very hot water. Can anybody tell me a way of getting the lids off?

I’ve had the same problem with Pyrex ones. I think the plastic does get a bit softer the more you use them.
I do like them though - they save an awful lot of clingfilm!

I’ll watch with interest although I have the opposite problem . I’ve had 2 glass luminarc containers for a while and lately I find it impossible to fully close the lid. I find I can now only get 3 corners in place.

I used to secure the 4th corner by slightly depressing the lid then stretching on the final corner. It feels like I’m trying to use the wrong lid but I’m confident I’m not as I only have that matching pair.

Useful to know, JaneAinsworth. I was going to give Pyrex ones a chance.

Grannynannywanny, I will try slightly depressing the lid when I try to remove it. It might just work.

Granny NW, I may have to use my elbow to depress it and the resulting contortion may set off the radio alarm on the pendant around my neck. May I let you know what happens?

Good luck Caleo, I hope you can find a solution that works for you. It’s frustrating!

I bought a set of stretch silicone lids. They consist of different sizes, 6 circular and 6 rectangular lids. They are the most useful things. They stretch over bowls, cream pots etc. I use them all the time and they wash and dry quickly. Amazon have lots of different sets.

Thanks MiniMoon I will look at that right now.

Have just bought a set.

I have one of those glass containers with difficult to remove lid. It's used for butter and I just leave the lid loose on top! But that wouldn't work if you want to use it to store some other things.
