High water usage

I've recently received a letter from my water company to inform me that I've become a high water user.
Obviously related to the fact that I retired six months ago.
Can any Gransnetters share their water saving tips on here just in case there is something I'm not currently doing.

What are you doing with the water? Apart from a short shower and a few cups of tea I use very little. Our water is free here anyway.

If you’re on a meter I suggest you check for leaks ……. Take a reading, wait 24 hours then take another. You’ll be able to see if there’s significant usage and then report it to your water provider.

Sometimes toilet cisterns leak - we have a built in cistern but I know it trickles water constantly into the bowl, I can see the limescale mark on the back wall of the bowl.

Agree with a stitchintime. Because a water meter is in the property I've moved to am mindful of the water bills so from moving in I always water the garden with the water from washing pots when it's not rained

Having a bath every day?
Better to have a shower .
cleaning your teeth with the water running.
But odd that its daytime use.
Check for a leak.
Or perhaps its a scam??

My D , a few years ago told me her toilet cistern was constantly filling up, the water in the loo was running all the time.
As a single mother she couldn’t afford for a plumber to come and fix it.
Yes, you’ve guessed, a water bill in thousands, she had to pay hundreds per month to clear it.
Please check that nothing like that is your problem/answer.
It is so easy to ignore these things.

It is quite likely that the water company are informing you so that you can investigate for any leaks. I think they would only contact you if it was considerably more than normal use.

We were once told our electricity usage was extraordinarily high. We were worried as our consumption didn't seem more than normal and even wondered if the street lights were connected to our meter!

It turned out that the meter was faulty.

Are you on a meter?
I think the Water Company should be checking for leaks first.
A toilet cistern dribbling could be a reason and it would be cheaper to have that affixed than keep paying high bills.

I think I live in the same general area as Kircubbin2000. Our water is not free as such but we do not get a water bill. Our water costs are included within our general rates bill. We do not have a water meter.
