What temperature do you keep your house?

When I awoke at 4.40 the temperature was under 12. My smart meter has broken and the company said they are still getting readings so no problem, call in a month if i want a replacement.

Ours on x2 a day at 20° on at 0650 - 0930.. Then 1600-2100.

There was a similar thread on mumsnet where someone said they keep their whole house at 25 day and night!!

I would find it impossible to sleep if my bedroom was that hot. I have my thermostat set to 18 and increase it manually if needed. The heating comes on twice a day and goes off at 8.30pm. The gas fire in my lounge will keep me warm if necessary for watching TV but I prefer to sleep in a cool or even cold bedroom, so long as the electric blanket has been on and my bed is warm and snuggly.

19.5° from 4am. It needs the early warming up time as the system heats up up ultra slow. Then off from 4pm-7pm as this is our expensive tariff and 19.5° again from 7-10pm. The thermostat is in the kitchen, the coldest room in the house. I have a heated throw if needed for the evening but often just have it on me, its so lovely and warm without needing to turn it on

We feel the cold so hall thermostat is set to 21 degrees. However, we have radiator thermostats in all the other rooms so can keep bedrooms etc. cooler.

21c 7am -9pm.

Off at night when the house temperature drops to about 18c by morning.

My bill for gas and electric is £147 pm at the moment.

The same except it goes off at 10pm and I ease the thermostat down by half a degree a time if we're too warm.

The radiators all have thermostats and those in the bedrooms are on the lowest setting or just above.

I'd not be able to sleep with heat on, fires slowly fade.

When we had a boiler we set it at 20-22. Fire suits us better.

Last year I set the heating to come on twice a day, morning and evening and not at night.

This year I thought I'd see if it made a difference keeping it a constant temperature, including at night time.

I was very surprised to find this has saved me money! The house is now around 21-22 degrees throughout the house all day and night, but I sleep well despite fleecy jamas and a winter quilt.

I don't tolerate the cold and haven't been plagued this year by my usual health issues.

My boiler is only a few years old though, so must be very efficient.

I don't understand this reluctance to keep warm- it's winter for heaven's sake and you don't get medals for being cold all day...I agree some of the temps posted here are way too cold.

Our heating goes on from 7 am to 9.30 am and then from 4.30 pm to 10 pm. When the weather is very cold we boost it as necessary during the day using the Hive app. Today it is on at 21 at moment as we are sitting about and feeling cold. I have a fleecy throw as well over my legs and feet. I do feel the cold badly unless I keep moving

Set at 16.5 during most of the day, up to 18 max in the evening, keep on at 15 degrees overnight.

I'll put it up if I need it, to 17.5 probably will if it remains around freezing outside. I dont have thermostats on radiators, I wish I did, I could save more.
I've had a non active morning, but I am wearing what is now standard for a day in: thick fleece trousers, warm socks, a light thermal top, and key - a big thick but lightweight fleece garment that goes down to my mid calves with a hood.

Small house, 2 bedrooms: the living room is unfortunately the coolest room, so in the evenings if sitting, a HWB and a duvet.
Gas/Electric use - about £110 pcm.

I keep the Hive thermostat in the living room at 18 from 7am until 9.30pm. The living room is just right and the chill is kept off in all other rooms.
The smart meter registers around £7.50 a day.

It’s more cost effective to have the heating set to on all day rather than turning it off and on as it has to work harder that way to warm the house up again.
Each radiator having its own thermostat is the way to go.

My old house has no double glazing, no insulation apart from the roof space (where there’s nothing under the slates), terrible draughts from old sash windows.
I used to keep the thermostat at 15 all day in winter but now need it up to 17. When the heating goes off the indoor temperature drops immediately. I have never had heat on at night and am never cold in bed.
But I dream of nasty plastic windows instead of period features!

I am arthritic and have hypothyroidism so I feel the cold very badly. I keep the downstairs temperature at about 21-22. However the only upstairs room that is heated is the bathroom. I find heating in the bedroom is too stuffy.

We have Hive, with gas CH. It’s set for 18deg overnight, 22 early morning and evening and 20 during the day. We have thermostats so turn down the radiators in rooms not occupied. It’s easy to boost the day time temp via Hive - it’s on 22 today as it’s very cold here in Scotland plus Dh has a serious health issue and we also both had Shingles vaccines yesterday so are a bit off colour.

The last bill for our 4-bed house was £135.

The heating's on all day, as O H has alzheimers and always feels cold,,,he sits beside the radiator with his gloves on,his hands are sore with arthritis, I turn it down an hour before we go to bed, so it's off all night.

Try living in a farmhouses 900 feet above sealevel no heating except a rayburn stove for cooking on no heating system. In 1963 I spent most of the winter trying to help water 90 milking cows plus the young stock. This involves smashing ice on ponds for them to have a drink. Good way of keeping warm. Why does everybody moan?

I could not live in any of your houses, I keep my house at 25 all day and turn it down at night to around 18 depending on the weather. I can turn the radiators up and down as required but usually all the rooms I use are full on. I am sat still most of the day working from home and now my hands are cold.

Reading this, I am reminded why I do not live in the UK!

Heating "just right" at 18 degrees!

I don't own an indoor thermometor, so I don't know exactly what the room temperatures are, but they are no lower than 23-25 degrees.

Commonly 19.5 - including at night as I’m asthma and can’t deal with cold air. Sometimes I put it up to 20.5.

Our thermostat shows between 15 and 20, usually we have it warmer in the evening when we sit down more. I don’t think the central heating system could ever get it over 20 anyway! We live in quite a big house and it takes a lot of heating. Sadly, our boiler broke down one day before this current cold spell. It’s now fixed but it was quickly perishing. It’s surprising what we take for granted!
