Gas on glass hob

I have a black glass gas hob, its no different to any other gas hob, I have a cleaner once a week due to health issues and she uses a glass cleaner after wiping it down , it shines like new

I've got a Neff gas hob. The burner supports lift off and go in the dishwasher. Glass top is easy to keep clean and I'm very fond of it. Had it nearly 20 years now and it still looks great.

I cannot have an induction hob as DH has a pacemaker. When we sort out our kitchen I will have my usual range cooke with a gas hob and a black drip tray as it doesn't show how badly it is stained.

I'm glad someone mentioned the pacemaker issue. So many people don't know that it's not a great idea to have an induction hob if you have a pacemaker.

The wiring is in place as the gas rings are electronically started.It was really the size of an induction hob I was thinking about.

I think you might need a higher spec electric circuit than the one that just lights the electronic ignition. I had to have a heavy duty circuit put in when I had my induction hob fitted. I was also told that I needed ventilation underneath it - fitted into the baseboard of the unit it is on. They do get very warm underneath.

I always had gas hobs untilI moved to a village with no gas. I bought an induction hob and would never have anything else now.

I have a pacemaker and an induction hob. I just have to stay about 60 cm away when cooking. No problem at all.
When I had my pacemaker fitted, I got rid of my old induction hob and went back to ceramic. I hated it! I also don’t like gas so took some advice from the support group for my particular heart condition and lots of people with ICDs, pacemakers and CRTds said they got on perfectly well with their induction hobs.
So I am back to using a speedy, clean and wonderful induction hob.

Sikipoo - yes I have had that since 2009 - a Neff - not a day’s problem - just wipe clean - ofcourse, the metal stand on which you place the pans, need cleaning. I just put them in the dishwasher.

I used to have a wok burner one of those Domino type hobs with a metal support on a glass base. The metal is kept in place by fitting around the gas burner which comes though the glass. It was easy to clean but I found that I didn't use it nearly as much as my induction hob so eventually replaced it with an induction version.

There was a gas hob in the kitchen I have now, which I asked the builders to replace with an induction hob. It was absolutely no problem for them. You’ll need someone with both gas & electrical skills but ime all kitchen people can do both. They’ll advise on the size needed, as well.

I had a gas hob in my new house which I hated so ordered a new induction hob that was standard size, fitted perfectly once the gas was disconnected and hob removed and it already had the electric wiring so was just a case of wiring in the new one. Very happy with it.

I have a gas hob which is glass. It still has the metal pan supports. I’m very pleased with it but it’s old now and has seen better days. I’m replacing it with something similar from a Spanish company called Cata. It costs just under £250. Of course there are more expensive ones out there but this is very smart. Like any other glass surface which can get wet or greasy it requires careful cleaning. I use a glass cloth for this.

You'd need a gas engineer to cap the gas pipe to your existing hob and an electrician to fit the appropriate wiring (if you don't already have it in situ) for the induction hob. The hob would have to fit the existing cut out in your work top, although the cut out could possibly be made bigger.

I agree about induction hobs- I had one in my previous home and now have an old gas hob where the knobs keep falling off. Can't wait to have an induction hob put in!

I can sympathise with anyone not liking stainless steel hobs. Back in 1972,- being very avante guard, I had a SS large hob fitted in the kitchen of our new build house. Along with the eye level oven and grill, it looked the most modern of kitchens.
How I hated that hob - never managed to get it looking really clean. even with special SS hob cleaner. Never ever repeated.

Not sure about these glass gas hobs. Wonder how easily they would break if something was dropped on them, still a lot of faffing about with burners, etc to clean.

For total ease of cleaning nothing can really beat Induction hobs, a quick wipe is all that is required to keep them looking like new.

I got one of these in December. Previously had a stainless steel one. So far I am pleased with it, really easy to clean. It’s a Bosch one from AO.

I am confused. I had never heard of them, but looked at them on the Curry's website and couldn't see where the glass was. I assumed a glass sheet over the burners, but all it seems to mean is a glass rather than a metal drip tray, or have I ot it all wrong?

A drip tray is a drip tray is a drip tray. I cannot see what advantage having one made of glass will have.

Just bought one hasn,t been connected yet as our gas fitter is down with the flu.I,m sure it will be easier than my stainless steel hob …or at least I hope it will

I had to look it up I’d not heard of these, no experience but you still have the metal pan supports I really don’t see much advantage but I bet they cost mucho.
