Cooker hoods

You could try getting in touch with a firm of kitchen fitters to see if they would fit a new cooker hood, also suggest a model that would work in your space.

Probably someone who fits kitchen, but might they not be interested as it is a small job, or simply someone who advertises their services a Handyperson, as it is replacing like for like it shouldn't be a huge job as the electrics ( they are usually plugged in) are already in place , if you are on FB look on your local pages and you can often see adverts for handyperson on there or ask friends and family for recommendations.

Just a thought it you have somewhere like Howden or B&Q near you they sometimes are helpful with things like this.

I’m in the same boat - mine exploded at Christmas. I can get a replacement hood, but the electrician has let me down!

I suggest you google "buy cooker hood with installation" or you may want to filter that down by adding where you live. That should bring up quite a few options for you.

The Euronics chain fit them when you buy from them but it depends where you're located, there may not be one close to you.

Failing any of those, a qualified electrician.

You may however be left with some touching up to do if you can't buy like for like.

Kitchen fitters are only interested in fitting a kitchen- I've been down that path and only need new appliances so I'm now trying to do it one appliance at a time...

Yes, I have seen a local handyperson advertised so this may be my only option for now.

Howdens near me only deal with trade although it is a Howden's kitchen but it was in when I moved here- the units are sound and don't need replacing.

B&Q are useless- they sell the cooker hoods but only install them if you are having one of their kitchens- I went there today.

I shall try Euronics although I think I went there before and they weren't interested.

I had an electrician come to put the new lights in this week but he wasn't keen on doing anything with the cooker hood. He just told me to buy a new one!

Kitchen fitters and/or an electrician.

We decided on splash backs rather than tiles, they are easier to fit and can be cut around awkward shapes I think.

However, between the hob and the extractor fan, the kitchen fitters added a stainless steel splashback, very easy to keep clean.

Kitchen fitters won't just fit appliances, as I said above.

However, I have thought of a splashback and even removing the cooker hood altogether, but my small kitchen needs the fan in the winter.

I also saw some stainless steel splashbacks too- I am wondering if you can put them over tiles instead of taking the tiles off.

I do now have a couple of numbers to ring tomorrow, a long established kitchen suppliers who are a family firm and a very local supplier of ex-display appliances who might also be able to help.

I think the way to go is through local small companies instead of the big chains who aren't really interested unless you want to spend a lot of money- which I don't.

Perhaps they're more obliging round here but they do do a lot of home improvements too.

After a few days ringing round suppliers I have reached a dead end yet again so my final try will be a local guy advertising in a local mag.

Sorry you’ve hit a brick wall keepingquiet, but I’ve had a result with a local electrician! However, before I buy a new hood, he’s going to take the chimney off the current one to make sure it isn’t just fused. He’s also going to fit a new element in my fan oven (which I’ll get for him) and replace a bathroom extractor.

All in all, I think worth his while.

I wouldn’t go through a kitchen shop, probably charge you a fortune. Just get an electrician to do the job.
