Lights in fridges

And you'd struggle to get in most fridges and would surely have no oxygen...

I heard years ago from an engineer that fridges have a light so that if anyone should get shut inside, and they're afraid of the dark, the light is there to calm them.

But the light goes off when the door shuts

62Granny hi there I love my fridge freezer it’s a large American style which has lights in both areas . As I get up through the night for a cold drink of lemonade I love these lights there’s no need to pop the kitchen light on as I have battery operated lights stuck on my skirting board and the outside of my fridge - they’re blooming great no need to use electricity I have these lights in my bedroom, hallway, and bathroom for this night owl. Cheap as chips from Amazon, if we have a power outage I’ve still got lights - take care x

My fridge light never last long, neither does the oven bulb so I’ve not bothered to replace them now.

Same. I know what's in the fridge, we have kitchen lighting.

We use motion sensitive lights in the en suite, less intrusive.

Auntie E if your fridge is ina dark spot in a dark room and opening he door blocks the light , it is very useful - and with modern LED bulbs it uses only £1 a year to run, why not?

I didnøt even know that you could get a freezer with a light. Perhaps because I have had a freezer with drawers that pull out for years, haveing early on got tired of trying to defreeze and clean chest freezers.

As to fridges, yes they do have lights, but when I turn mine off, empty it, and wash it, it is just as easy to see the inside, as when the light is on, so I do not see any reason for fridges having lights. The gas one, my mothe had when I was a child, did not have a light and it was not hard to find what we needed in it.

I've just bought a new fridge which has the usual white light but also near the salad drawer it has coloured lights supposedly to imitate sunlight to keep your salad fresher longer.

Sounds like going to fairground and quite posh

I very much liked having a fridge light, but unfortunately it’s broken. And I do miss it.

As previously stated. You can’t replace the bulb but an engineer has to come out to replace it.

For obvious reasons I’m not bothering.

Fridge interior no fun when LED lights don’t function. I have a little headlamp and a torch, but not quite what I want. DH contacted the fridge manufacturer. They would come out and replace the light block - and part/s and callout charge would be about €300. Uh, no thanks. DH bought 2 similar LED lights from Amazon for about €15. Both rechargeable from our laptop and both respond to movement. One now lives inside a dark coat cupboard, the other sticks to our redundant light block in the top of the fridge. We can happily spot the fridge contents again, without assistance from George Clooney or a bank loan!

I am a recent convert to these rechargeable lights. I tried them about 10 years a go and they were not a success, but we started using them again after we moved house last year. Our new home has lots of unlit storage cupboards in odd places and the rechargeable lights are an absolute godsend.

DD had one of those ridiculous integrated fridge-freezers, set inside a cupboard. It’s so high that it’s impossible to reach the top shelf without standing on a stool, and she hasn’t replaced its blown bulb which makes it even more difficult to see what’s up there. I hate it!

Monica if the coloured lights go off when the door is closed .what is the point of having them? If they are there to imitate sunlight, as Elless says they would need to be on for a reasonable amount of time.

I was writing about the bulbs that illuminate the inside of the fridge and turn off when you shut the door. Coloured indicator lights stay on.

I have never come across 'sunshine' bulbs in the veg box. My light is nowhere near the salad drawer. You can see the interior lights go on and off as you open and shut the door.

£1 a year to pay for electricity for fridge/freezer lights will bankrupt few.

If you do not like them, take them out.

Do not mention fridge lights!
My late OH spent an inordinate amount of time on a family holiday in the middle of nowhere trying to source a replacement bulb for the light in the fridge in the cottage we were renting.
I did venture to suggest that he might ask the owner to do this or even ... heaven forfend! ... that it really did not matter but on he prodded missing time on the beach over several days.
You will instantly be impressed by the fact that we did not divorce and filled with admiration for my forbearance!
