Oddly enough.

I don't think Bentley engages his brain before he writes.

1) If the mother or father leaves their half of the jointly owned home to the offspring the surviving parent only owns half of the property but they have the right to live in it for the rest of their life.

2) In my case and I am sure in many other cases the offspring spends substantial sums of money on the house relying on the fact the house will be theirs at some point.

Try a cold flannel.

Anne58 Fri 26-Jul-13 17:43:50

I have heard others express the same theory, but I'm still not sure.

ginny Fri 26-Jul-13 17:06:21

As I said on another thread, maybe they are alter egos of the same person. wink

Ella46 Fri 26-Jul-13 17:02:23

More likely to make members leave hmm

Ana Fri 26-Jul-13 16:56:58

Don't think anyone would pay Bentley/Gerry for his current crop of OPs...hmm

Sel Fri 26-Jul-13 16:52:02

Some forums, with a view to their figures, will pay people to start a thread...not saying this is the case on Gransnet but maybe bentley49 is a paid agent provocateur grin They start a thread but never post elsewhere.

I think this is just another wind-up

Anne58 Fri 26-Jul-13 16:31:43

Also, in fairness to Frank he does start threads that are never meant to be controversial, just observational. In addition he has posted in a very supportive way when members dogs have "passed away".

I'm not fully up to speed with Gerry (I notice that he hasn't answered my question yet) but I can't say I've noticed him posting anything that could be thought of as even remotely supportive, sympathetic, empathetic or even (god forbid) "nice".

If he wants to just start threads that might be deemed "controversial" I'm afraid he will have to try harder!

Aka Fri 26-Jul-13 16:23:42

At least Frank knows what he's talking about whereas bentley gets totally confused.

Anne58 Fri 26-Jul-13 16:23:04

"yawn"

I think you need to try harder.

gracesmum Fri 26-Jul-13 16:05:07

Gally Fri 26-Jul-13 15:28:19

Granny23 Fri 26-Jul-13 15:22:51

Bentley is the product of Frank's worst nightmares grin

janthea Fri 26-Jul-13 15:16:40

Are you SURE you are not Frank? Or his twin?

bentley49 Fri 26-Jul-13 15:14:30

If a mother wills her half of the estate to the offspring and then dies before the father the father might want to get a lady as a companion and possibly get married.

I think the father should have the power to take the half belonging to the offspring back and should even have the power to will all of the house to his companion / new wife.
