It's worth complaining to your bank

Glad you got your money back. Many people do not study their statement in detail and the banks slip things past their customers. I am guilty of this sometimes.

Good for you, bags. Why do they have to be told to behave decently, though? They can identify inconsistent payments and system anomalies like that if they want to.

My DD used to work in a bank, and when I received some terrible service from mine a few years ago, she advised me to ask them for compensation. As their actions had caused me considerable distress, they gave me £150. MY DD told me they have a lot of money put aside for valid complaints. I wouldn't have known if she had not told me.

I have no problem with complaining if I have a justified grievance with the bank or any other company.

Normally a phone call is enough but failing that put your complaint in writing and you will received more often than not some sort of inconvenience payment.

These companies are making millions in profit so at the very least they should be providing a good service to us and if they are not you should let them know.

Seeing this I was astonished to see my overdraft facility has been halved today as I have never used it.
I phoned my bank and they said there was no question of me not getting a higher overdraft facility if I wanted it.
They reduced it so it would be spotted as being out of order if somebody stole my bank card.
I have just told by bank to leave the lower overdraft amount on my account and I would contact them if a larger overdraft was ever required.
I was surprised a few months ago when I had spent £80 on a train ticket my bank stopped my card and phoned me after I had the ticket.
I could understand that as I had never bought a train ticket before for that sort of amount so I would have thought they could have set their computers to flag up if I got to say half my overdraft limit.

£80 is not much to make your bank suspicious, maryjayne. I was embarrassed when my debit card was blocked when I tried to pay for a very expensive car repair. Luckily I am well known at the garage and they trusted me to bring in my cheque book the following day. The bank then rang me and went over the last ten or so purchases to ensure that they were legitimate. I did appreciate their caution as I had previously been fleeced of £1300 by debit card fraud.
