Is this right?

I am sorry to hear of the break up of your relationship goodoldgrolly especially after such a long time.

My daughter and her partner split up 2 years ago. She had a slightly different problem in that he disappeared without leaving any forwarding address and she had a terrible job tracing him. Anyway cutting a very long story short. We eventually traced him and contacted everyone with whom they had joint interests. Mortgage company, insurances etc. who all agreed to send a copy of each letter addressed to both of them to two seperate addresses. I am sure this is common practise during a break up. If I were you I would approach the various companies who would write to you both jointly and explain the situation. I am sure they are obliged to provide a copy of every letter to both parties. As far as I recall from redirecting post last year, you have to issue instructions for each individual name or set of names. So letters addressed to both of you would have to be registered for redirection in addition to letters addressed solely to your husband. (You pay for each redirection.) However, I don't think Mr absent had to give permission when I filled in the form. Perhaps you could get in touch with the mail redirection service.

Jointly addressed mail can only be redirected if both parties have provided a signature and identification with the redirection form, otherwise jointly addressed mail should continue to be delivered to the original address.

If this is not happening, you need to get in touch with the Post Office and have it corrected.

Have a look at the Post Office website, there is a lot of info on redirection, including a phone number for the help line.

I don't know if things have changed but my late husbands mail was re directed to the address I live at now.
I did fill in a form to try to stop junk mail being sent but I still get the odd letter forwarded by the present occupiers now.
