Breakdown cover

I agree with those who have said ring and tell them it is too much.

My husband inevitably rings the AA and gets it for less, although we are not 'Gold' members so I don't know if that would make a difference.

It's the same with all insurance companies isn't it, you have to work hard to get a decent price whether it's house insurance, car insurance etc. It's so annoying.

I am with an online breakdown company called Start Rescue. They were recommended by a cousin last year. Touch wood I haven't had to use them yet so I can't speak from experience but my cousin was impressed by the speed in which they came to her aid when her car broke down - it was less than fourty minutes - and they fixed the problem rapidly. My level of cover is Rescue and Recovery and I paid £26.00.

I thought that Green Flag just got a local garage to come out to you if you break down and don't have their own mechanics, but I could be wrong. I don't think I've ever felt as helpless as the day I drove to the nearest town, parked in a car park and then couldn't start the car. Since then I've always had either AA or RAC breakdown cover [depends who Toyota are using at the time]. I'm sure I only pay about £50 a year [need to check].

Charley we have Nissans too - I have a newish Micra and Himself has a qashqia (and is waiting for his brand new one!) - and all have the "deal" with the RAC. Also, the Ford Streetka, which I have just traded in, had something similar with the AA. Worth researching?

Anno please do ring up and say you can get the same cover for half the price. You'll be shocked at how much discount you will get. My husband never ever takes any insurance first quote. It actually disgusts me a little to realise that companies treat their long term faithful customers in this way. It just doesn't pay to be loyal to these company's.

Car break down is part of my gold card bank account. I have dealt with Green Flag when I was covered along with my car insurance. I found them very efficient.

I use my Tesco clubcard vouchers to get RAC membership.

I spoke to the AA man in the supermarket and he advised me to tell them I was leaving and they would reduce the price quoted. I did and it worked !

My breakdown recovery is through my insurance company, so if I change insurers, I get different breakdown cover. It's nothing like that much anno.

That does seem alot anno I do question all the renewals when they come in and never pay what they are asking,next on my list is BT Vision in a few months last one was Saga on car insurance & travel insurance I changed insurers after that quote,my friend is with Green Flag and she has always rated them and she pays about £110.00 for everything and is pleased with that,well worth going to them and insisting on a long term members discount.

I am with the RAC and pay nothing! I drive a Nissan Micra and apparently there is some deal between the garage where I bought it and the RAC.

I would not dream of paying £212 and £75 is more than enough to pay especially as you are only going on short trips.

Have you complained to them anno ? my DH was asked for £114 but rang up and said he was unwilling to pay more than £75. They immediately reduced it to £75. Sadly it is yet another example of those who shout louder getting heard .It is not right that loyal members bear the brunt whereas newcomers get all the introductory offers. We very nearly changed to the RAC but I don't know anything about Green Flag.

That seems a lot. I have an ancient vw campervan and an ordinary car with two of us driving cost £125.00 withAA but I alternate names and do it through topcash back which the pay me about £40 back.
RAC also gives a good return through cash back schemes.
