So sick of the rat race, getting older and want to be my own boss and work from home.

Does anyone have any suggestions about work that I can do from home

Thank you

Soutra Wed 02-Jul-14 22:22:52

This thread has gone quietconfused ? Have we run out of ideas?

Nelliemoser Wed 02-Jul-14 22:26:01

I think we are regrouping to get time to think of more.

Paula8 - another idea for starting your own business, especially if you like working with your hands, would be to start up your own leather repair business. Training is reasonably priced and it doesn't take too long to learn. I don't think the initial layout is expensive either but the bank may be willing to provide a loan as it is a new business.

My son used to own his own car restoration business and he used to hire a woman that was very skilled at repairing leather seats (much cheaper than buying new leather covers). She also used to make home visits to repair leather settees - even much loved handbags and shoes! My son said that once repaired, it isn't noticeable - and that includes tears in the leather.

I think it's quite a new technique (relatively speaking) so if you get a move on, you shouldn't have too much competition!

There are others offering training and can be found by googling 'leather reapir training courses'.

I've lots of ideas, Soutra, but Paula seems to have disappeared.... No point posting them if she's not interested, is there?

HollyDaze Wed 02-Jul-14 22:48:39

It might be ofhelp to others though Dragonfly - I'm keeping a close eye on suggestions in case something takes my fancy smile

Soutra Wed 02-Jul-14 23:04:34

sad sad feeling rejected. Maybe Jobcentre Plus isn't ready for my talents after all.

Soutra Wed 02-Jul-14 23:07:16

Perhaps she has had a better offer smile

rosequartz Wed 02-Jul-14 23:11:45

I was hoping for lots of cupcake

Perhaps Paula will come back and update us when she has decided.

Dragonfly1 Wed 02-Jul-14 23:33:38

D'you think so, rose? I do so worry when people disappear! There was Withany with her bridge, whose marital saga bothered me all over Christmas, and Eliza, whose house-swapping traumas and need to change career rallied so much GN support. And actually, we haven't heard from ps for ages, and that really does bother me. I suppose people naturally drop away when they don't need us any more. sad

Aka Wed 02-Jul-14 23:45:37

Or perhaps they've forgotten their passwords. Happens to me all the time!

rosequartz Wed 02-Jul-14 23:53:34

I wasn't on here then; perhaps people use it for a while but can't find what they are looking for so drift away, or sort things out, or become so busy they don't have time.

It is so kind of you to worry so much, Dragonfly and I often worry about people and their problems, but a friend pointed out to me that unless you can actually change things for them, you can advise only and can't worry if they choose not to take that advice. I have noticed that people often offload all their problems, leave you fretting then next time you see them they say 'oh, everything's fine now, didn't I tell you?'. So I try not to take people's problems on board so much now.

I hope Paula is OK though, and sorts out the best way forward for herself.

Maybe someone else could find it helpful though.

Bookbinding - just remembered a friend's daughter has just finished her training.

Nelliemoser Thu 03-Jul-14 12:42:40

Rosequartz You have just described my daughter as she was some years ago. She would dump all the angst on me late at night so she could get to sleep and I then lay awake. grin

Soutra Thu 03-Jul-14 18:53:06

So have you just "dumped" a whim on us paula? Or was it a genuine request for help and suggestions?

Nonu Thu 03-Jul-14 19:18:01

As Frank would say "That's life"

grin

MiniMouse Thu 03-Jul-14 19:20:46

Paula has more going on in her life than just what is on this thread. Life-changing, plus family health issues, so perhaps she just hasn't been able to look on GN.

Dragonfly1 Thu 03-Jul-14 19:25:58

GNHQ, please can we have a tongue-in-cheek emoticon? Thank you x

Anne58 Thu 03-Jul-14 19:36:19

grin

Anne58 Thu 03-Jul-14 19:37:58

Thanks Nonu for providing the earworm of the day! grin

Nonu Thu 03-Jul-14 19:40:59

PHO

Anne58 Thu 03-Jul-14 19:50:09

Nonu the trouble is I'm now doing the moves as well!

Anne58 Thu 03-Jul-14 19:51:51

"....... and get back in the race!" with subtle leg kicks....... microphone held low for that bit, then up for the next........... oh bugger, no wonder I fear for my mental health!

Nonu Thu 03-Jul-14 19:52:01

XX

Anne58 Thu 03-Jul-14 19:52:25

PS Even worse, I do the backing vocals as well!

Nonu Thu 03-Jul-14 19:53:28

Mind you I love his ,"I did it my way", have you got the moves for that ?
