PPI

Rightly or wrongly, I tore mine up. I thought that it may be a scam because I have no recollection of taking out PPI.

If you have taken out PPI and think you might be able to claim, you can do it yourself without using these companies, there was an item od Radio 4's Money Box programme a while ago.

I'm sure if you Google you can find a lot of good info on how to do it yourself.

I received compensation from my card protection plan because I had a letter from CPP. I have heard that the majority of these letters were binned with people thinking they were junk mail therefore a lot of people haven't received compensation. There is a website www.cppredressscheme.co.uk that you can look at and also Martin Lewis has put a lot on info on his money saving site. I received a cheque for £280 but the S.O. received a lot more so I'm going to write to them to query it. You have till 30th Aug to make a claim.

Don"t know if we will get any joy , BUT if you don"t ask you don"t get.

If he has used cardguard in the past then he will get money back.

Silly question I know but how you know if you have ever used cardguard ?

You have to pay for it every year and were given a number to contact if you lost your credit card. Which wasn't necessary as the bank covered you for that anyway, but they still sold the policies on. My SIL always used to tell us that we didn't need cardguard but we still carried on paying it each year [till now]. I took ours out when my kids were at uni cause they were always losing things.

Just a quickie , Mr N has just been on to CPP and they said we might be in line for^ modest^ payment , so they are sending forms along.

That means he must have been paying into it at one time. When you get the payment they say you can only query it if you return the cheque but it took me too long to get that cheque for me to agree to that, so I'm writing to them with a photocopy of the cheque asking why other people have received more than me given that I paid into it for years.

I couldn't remember ever paying anything to CPP but filled the form in they sent (so presumably had done years ago) and got about £80 back.

My DD recieved £4,000 and her friend received £18,000.
My SIL informs me that these payments are doing wonders for the car trade.
Ie: people are using the payments for a deposit on new cars.

I've come to this a bit late but Martin Lewis the money saving expert says that if you receive a form from CPP you should fill it in and send it back. They are only sending these out to people who qualify for a refund. My DH filled his in and got £90, my son-in-law did the same and got around £80. People think it is junk mail but it isn't. My sister has applied for PPI insurance on a couple of loans. She did this herself without using a third party. She has received £7500 in all.

Companies are charging 39.9% so be warned. I found out when I asked the % when a cold caller rang me.
