My daughter has a 2 year old with a chroma so mal disorder and is possibly also autistic. Her partner left when she was pregnant. He still has access and sees little one about once a week, but is a bit erratic. My daughter is keen for him to be involved, but life is getting difficult for her. Little one doesn't sleep (literally), and she isn't easy to leave with a friend to get a break . Daughter would like to move from where she is in Lincoln to nearer us in Berkshire, so we can help out, but is worried that the father may be able to stop her. Can he do this? His name is on the birth certificate.

She needs to get legal advice.

I doubt it, even if they are still married no one can stop her living where she wishes. That's not to say he might not be upset and expect to retain contact. What are the legal arrangements. Name on birth certificate alone is pretty meaningless.

Also sounds like she needs a chat with citizen's advise. Also she needs some help with daughter's needs, is there a health visitor or can the doctor organise a referral?

She can choose to live wherever she wishes.

Thank you for your helpful replies. Arrangements to date are very informal. They agreed he could see her one day each weekend, but because of her difficulties with eating and communication, it can only be for a few hours at a time. He quite often can't make it for very spurious reasons. She wouldn't try to stop him from having regular contact, but he would object to having to travel and having to stay overnight somewhere. She sees a paediatrician regularly, a specialist health visitor, and goes to various clinics. Having said all of that, she is a physically healthy, happy, gorgeous poppet. They really need to be closer to us for more day to day help. I think the suggestion of the citizens advice centre is good, and I'll suggest that, thank you!
