Paypal e mail - BEWARE.

I rarely get this stuff in my inbox it usually goes to junk but this paypal scam gets through (I don't have an account).

I think it is just a little more worrying when they make it into your inbox and, unless you are one of those totally confident people, you doubt yourself.

I got two of these yesterday and did wonder if I had ever had such an account or if my GS had inadvertently bought something when on my Kindle. I rang Paypal and got some very helpful guy who was really good. I also checked my Amazon account to see if any such purchase had happened.

I agree with those who say never to open a link in an email unless you are totally sure where it came from.

I do get emails from my bank with links but even then I go to their website to access whatever, just in case.

I think it is just a matter of NEVER opening an e-mail from anyone purporting to be a bank, or asking for your personal details. Banks do not send out e-mails asking you to confirm anything.

Paypal always refer to you by your name when they contact you the scam emails refer to you as The Customer,I think we all know not to open any links to anything we are not sure of,but some do look so genuine and I can understand how people get caught out.

You can send these emails onto PayPal which has a department which tries to track down the senders. I have had them and even invoices which claim I have bought things etc, I just fwd them to PayPal.

I had a couple of emails purporting to be from PayPal. As I wasn't sure whether they were genuine I stopped using PayPal. Cuts my impulse buying down too!

I've had a Paypal account for years and have never had any dodgy emails purporting to be from them.

I think I must have a very good filter on my email account as I hardly ever get spam of any kind in my inbox.

I never look at emails purporting to be from paypal - I just delete them. I then enter my account safely and check for any problems.

My poor Dad in his nineties took to having a computer and loved his laptop - but he was always getting conned by these things and we kept insisting that he must ask us before opening them. He was a bit too trusting, but luckily never lost any money.

Yes, but if I know I do not have a paypal account, I know that any email purporting to be from my paypal account is phishing. If I had a paypal account I might wonder, like rubylady.

I've had these too. I just bin them without opening them. Never, ever click on links in emails unless you are absolutely 100% certain who the email is from.

TBH, not signing up to a paypal account won't stop you getting phishing emails - I get them from banks that I've never banked with telling me my account has been compromised. What account? These emails are spammed out to people randomly, whether or not you have accounts with the sites they are claiming to be from.

I've had those quite a few times. That's why I never sign up to a paypal account, even though I sometimes have to pay that way.
