Any ideas for getting competitive car insurance quotes. Why is it that each year premiums go up regardless of whether you have never claimed.?

Always challenge the re insurance premium. Companies do not want to lose business and will come back with a much lower quote. They say, 'for a valued customer' or ' it's a different product'!

We are insured with LV and up to now have always been very good. years ago, DS wrote his father's car off. Technically, not his fault, but both parties had to share the costs. It was all sorted very quickly with no additional premiums.

It pays to shop around.

Each year the companies I insured with the previous year send me increased quotes, but every year my actual insurances (car and home) go down not up.

I simply go onto one of the comparison sites and find the best quote and this has meant year on year a reduction. You cannot just accept a quote from your previous insurers. Change your insurers.

Simples!

I've been with the same broker for about 30 years, but with various different insurance companies. About 2 weeks before each renewal I get a letter from broker advising of my current company's price. Within a few days broker rings me and goes through a few companies, often getting something cheaper. I then say I'll check around and get back to you. Broker does not cover all insurance companies.

This year as usual I found another quote cheaper, by £40.
Back to broker and they matched it,as they always do.

I prefer to have a local broker so that if there is ever a claim, I can go talk to a real person face to face. My insurance is also reduced because I do low mileage, DHs car being used mostly.

A point to note....putting my DH on as a named driver adds £20. However when DH adds me as a named driver he gets a reduction of around £20.

Because of my medical problems only around 6 insurers will consider me for car insurance. LV is one of the more reasonable ones. With some I thought that I was purchasing a car- they were so expensive. I have never claimed in my life but that does not appear to come into the equation.
