Question? Would you take out equity on your house or is it a risky thing to do?

I think there are some situations where it certainly is not the best thing to do. You need very good unbiased advice. For anyone receiving benefits it may affect them once you have above the savings you are allowed and I think the longer you live the more the accrued interest is growing so you could die with no assets at all. Fine if you have no family to whom ypou would like to leave a small inheritance .

I have never found any advice that says that equity release is a good thing. It is a rip-off, only to be undertaken in desperate circumstances.

I think like the others it's only something to consider if you have no wish to leave anything when you die or if you were in dire need.

Sounds to me not a good idea. Tough decision.
