I tend to treat cold calling as dodgy and ask them not to call again. I've never had this particular scenario, hopefully someone who has will be able to help.

No never heard of this but I agree with Alima although I am frequently rude so that they get the message.

Me too, Charleygirl. I know they have to make a living, but I really resent having to answer the phone to this type of caller!

hula the caller could just be ascertaining whether you are a vulnerable person and easy to con, accepting their advice could put you on a sucker list.

I wouldn't entertain them , they'll want something probably money..

Any company, especially one offering financial services, which cold calls you shouldn't be touched with a barge pole.
If you need advice about care costs go to AgeUK or a family solicitor.
If you try to protect your home and then need care, councils will regard it as 'deprivation of assets' and get the money anyway.

This is usually promoting an asset protection trust which has been discussed at length in another thread. The only method that is guaranteed to work is for a married couple; get your solicitor to sever the joint tenancy of your property and make wills with property trust whereby you each leave your half of the house to the children in trust with a right for the survivor to live in the property for life. If the survivor goes into care in the future and is means tested then only half the value of the house can be used to pay for care, not all of it.
