Thanks everyone, your replies have meant so much.
My dear nephew has a firm of solicitors that specialises in conveyancing. I didn't use him this time, as this is the third choice, I decided against the other houses in the end, when using my nephew's firm. Last month, I did ask him one query and it seems he replied when he was having a long w/e in Cyprus.
I wish I had now, as you say this firm, that was recommended to me by the estate agent, has been useless. As you pointed out, teir English has not been that great, it took a whole month just to receive the file to fill in with my information and they seem to prefer to go via the estate agent, not myself.

I sympathise, Cath, when I was trying to sell my house after my DH had died the only information regarding progress of the sale was from the estate agent.

I think that's probably because they're in contact with both seller and buyer, and obviously keen to get their commission!

Thanks Ana, I tried to make it clear by putting at the top of each email, who the email came from.

I received the email from the estate agent last night, the latter, as you may read, is the second one in my message. I did phone the estate agent this morning to make sure they really mean there is movement, as I know they are fed up still having the house in their file and mentioned in Sept, that this has never happened to them before, so it is all a learning project for them and me!

What annoys me is, if there is any further movement, why didn't I hear about it first from the solicitor and she should be phoning me, not visa versa, they get paid enough.
As I am not on a landline I have to use my mobile.

What I may do is go and see the office of the same firm of solicitors in the nearest town, but there they just deal with Wills not conveyancing,although have mentioned I could use their office to get any information across to their conveyancing office, which is in anohter town.
Thanks again, this has all been a lot to bare, as it started one year after my late husband died.

PS 'your file has been dictated on' is just shorthand for 'a letter to you has been dictated but is in a queue to be typed up.'

It doesn't sound like a scam to me. The OP has been in contact with the parties involved before about this particular property.

Perhaps it would have been better to phone the solicitors. E-mails can be ambiguous, as is the one you quote! Are they referring to their own or the estate agents' e-mail, and which party has 'dictated on' your file?

I'd phone both, and also hope to receive a letter asap!
