Free Tv licences for 75 year olds

But if the person over 75 dies or goes into a care home then the spouse (if under 75) is liable for the full licence fee immediately - as my sister found to her cost when she was widowed.

My mum's TV licence was due in the February and she was 75 the following September. If I remember rightly, when they sent her renewal in the January, there was a bit on it saying if you are going to be 75 within the next 12 months to contact them. Mum then received a new bill for 6 months payment

They're very good at sorting out free licences and refunds. We didn't know that you get a half price licence if you are registered blind (DH is)so we carried on paying the full price.

I spotted an article online about it so rang the number on the back of the licence. It was sorted out in minutes, the direct debit changed and a refund for the months we had overpaid.

Very impressed.

Hello! I'm new to this, so I hope I'm getting it right.
I will be 75 next birthday, and will then be entitled to a free tv licence (whoopee), but I hadn't realised that you need to apply for It.
It's really easy, even for me, you ring the number on the back of your current licence, (the customer service helpline), you should have your National Insurance number ready, as they need this, and they do the rest!
The free licence applies to anyone at the age of 75, they don't pay any regard to younger people living in the same house.
They also have offer a refund if you have overpaid.
