Years ago we claimed using Money Saving Expert template and got quite a substantial sum. It was a total surprise.

As midgey said you don't need a claim company, Which magazine have a pro forma letter you can use with the details from your account. Don't waste your money on a claims firm. I used the Which letter and got several thousand pounds back.

Don't sign up with a company, as others have said Money Saving Expert will help.why pay someone to do what you can do.

I am in the middle of getting a company to do the leg work for me. It will cost me 33% the penalty for living in London I think. If they do find anything it will be money that I was not expecting, but I do not think that there will be anything..

I've recently submitted 7 claims for ppi on loans , a credit card and mortgage repayment insurance . You can ask your bank for old statements or obtain a credit report which will give details of loans etc. Companies like Capital One have dedicated teams to deal with claims , and it's really easy to do it yourself without using a company who will charge a fee. There's a completely free online site called Resolver, which is endorsed by Martin Lewis who set up money saving expert. They have letter templates for most companies and it takes around 10 minutes to fill one in. The site sends it off, so no need to try to find the right address, and you get an email update . It's a brilliant service and well worth trying . Highly recommend

We ignored the calls for ages, but PPI claims will finish in 2019. We filled in the form for Claim Guys (not knowing any other) and they found a card I had with Debenhams and although I only paid £96 in PPI, with the interest etc. It came to over £900. I had to pay the company 30% but this is money I would not have known about. Apparently store cards were the worst, and Egg cards. You have nothing to lose by checking your PPI. IF they do the work and you have nothing to claim, you have lost nothing but a bit of time. GO for it.

I was quite convinced it would be a waste of time. It wasn't. If there is no claim to be made you'll be told and it will cost nothing.

I saw an ad for a claims company and decided that it would do no harm to find out if I had inadvertently paid PPI. Turns out that I had paid it on a credit card I've had for about 30 years and was owed a substantial sum for which I am very grateful, although the claims company has taken its pound of flesh. The company is Action Direct UK. They have always been completely up front in letting me know what I would be in for and are very courteous when they contact me.

Luckygirl, I wouldn't qualify either. When I have told the phoners that I have never borrowed money or had a mortgage, they didn't believe me. Many of us hate the idea of owing anything and would rather starve than take on credit. I realise of course, that a mortgage is necessary for most, but I have never been in a position to take one on.

I do not think that it applies to us - we stopped paying a mortgage about 26 years ago; we have an overdraft facility, but have never used it; and we have a credit card but it is paid off by direct debit every month. Can anyone imagine that we might qualify for this refund?

I am in the process of doing it myself after using Moneysaving Expert. I don't know yet if successful, have had a couple of phone calls but so far the process has been quite easy.

I got £8000 doing it myself years ago. The letters you can use on Moneysaving Expert are quite straightforward. Saved paying a lot of commission. Had a bit of a problem with Barclays over loans from years before but once I got the Ombudsmen involved they soon paid up.

Yes and quite recently!
I simply got fed up of phone calls and, saying I thought they were wasting their time, gave them the go-ahead.
I suggested a store card and a bank credit card.
Had a couple of forms to complete and it turned out as expected that there was no PPI on the accounts so no claim.
BUT they uncovered 2 store accounts I'd forgotten and claimed successfully.
Their fees take quite a chunk (25% plus VAT) but I ended up with a cheque for around £600 of cash I hadn't expected as I had always refused PPI since my job gave me 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay in the event of illness.
If you think dealing with a few calls and a couple of forms is worth a few hundred pounds I suggest you try it.
