Millenials more likely to ask grandparents for money

Me too fireflies. But I am not that surprised by the story...many of my friends have been helping their grown -up children out for years

I don't know who these rich grandparents are who can give grandchildren £15,000 each ( average) . It's another world .

What I can't give in me met I make up for in time and love .

As far as I am concerned it is up to me to make the decision to give, as and when it seems appropriate, NOT the child or grandchild's to ask for money, unless in the direst emergency.

We are not close-fisted and have given our DC financial gifts on a number of occasions, but we have always made the offer, they have never asked. DGC are both still in primary school so anything they get from us is through their parents.

Whilst we cannot afford to compete with paying chunks off Student Loans we did when DGSs where at Uni make sure we kept their freezers filled up every month with an Iceland shop for them,at least we knew they where getting fed.

I don't believe grandchildren do usually ask grandparents for money; it's much more likely to be offered than to be asked for I would think. On starting university my children and my two nephews were all given a small monthly allowance from their paternal grandparents; my children were extremely grateful, never took it for granted and on graduating made a point of 'treating' the grandparents as a mark of gratitude. My parents in law are not wealthy, but are/were delighted to be in a position to help. They have only one grandchild left at university now and say they'd much rather spend the money when it's needed than leave it after they've died.

The article says that the GP offered so that is much more reasonable than the GC asking.

Our GC are not of an age to need help from us but we have helped our children because we plan to live for a very long time and their need is greatest now.
