Getting a home assessment seems to depend on where you live. In my area a lot have been given home visits but in the North East it seems harder to get one.

Sorry Vampirequeen my last post was a reply to Durhamjen and I missed your post. I am also disabled (Osteoarthritis, heart problems, depression etc. etc.) and had a home assessment. I got my PIP including mobility. My assessor was a District Nurse so understood some of my issues but my GS assessor wouldnt say what her qualifications were and was rather abrupt.

You know that, I know that, the world knows that but THEY say not! I am dreading the appeal hearing, the thought of him going through having to face strange people again asking him questions which he cant answer breaks my heart. We are trying to get more evidence and statements together to send in hopefully they will reverse the first decision.

They told me that they don't do home visits unless you can't get out of bed. Everyone else has to attend an centre. I have agoraphobia but it made no difference. I got there but had a major panic attack so couldn't answer any questions. I must have had the only nice assessors in the system because she not only brought in a second assessor who was equally kind but phoned someone and complained that I should never have been forced to attend. They didn't ask me any questions because they said it was obvious how ill I was and said they would report accordingly but couldn't guarantee that I'd get PIP because sometimes their recommendations are ignored by some unknown face behind a desk. I was lucky and got PIP but I don't trust them not to try to take it back.

Yes my GS wont go out alone his mum must be with him. She is a single parent always has been and I live 300 miles away so a lot of my support is on the phone. Even when I do get to visit it can be upsetting for him to have another person in the house as it affects his routine. When he had his assessment appointment she asked for a home visit or at least a taxi but was refused both. It took him almost a week to settle down again after the appointment he was so upset. My daughter was so worried as he has a history of self harming but luckily he came through it until the decision letter came.

That's my grandson, HAZBEEN.
He will be 16 next month, and I have been his main home tutor since he couldn't cope with a large academy school, although he was okay in the primary.
His parents get DLA for him, so they have got the PIP stuff to come.
I asked him last month about going on a bus, and the only time he does is with me, on the park and ride, so he was saying about catching the P&R 1. I asked him how he was going to get to the Park & Ride, and he said I'd have to take him like I always did.
I don't think he gets it.

This my first time of posting. I have been following this thread as my Grandson (who had turned 16) was refused PIP after getting DLA last July. He is Autistic. The assessor wrote " interacted with assessor and showed no signs of distress". In fact he cannot look people in the eye, will not speak to anyone outside the family and was so distressed in the waiting room they got him a taxi home authorised by the assessor! My daughter appealed after he was again refused on reconsideration and has received a date for next month. One problem we faced was that he had no support in place, was home educated (after servere bullying problems) although he now has a Counsellor and a Support Worker who visits him at home. As his SW said "He has slipped under the radar". Due to the loss of benefit my daughter lost her Carers allowance, Disabled Child tax credits and premium as well as his DLA, so now she is having to claim Job Seekers Allowance and staff at the Job Centre are not taking any notice of the fact she cant work long hours or miles away and needs to be near home in case she has to get back quickly. If she did what they say she would have to leave him alone in the house or pay more than she could possibly afford for carers who he would probably not be able to cope with. It sums it up when he heard that they had refused his claim he said " so I am worthless arent I. I wish I was dead"

The government still wants to punish people, despite saying sanctions were wrong. Just cruel.

The Select Committee report into PIP and ESA is to be published this week. They had over 4000 individual responses and were so moved by them that they are very exceptionally publishing them in a separate volume. Perhaps the comment that takes the biscuit is this
