Can anyone please advise me how to find a good solicitor to write our wills. How do you know if they are good? I suppose I will never know how good they are as I won’t be here when the will is read. It’s not a straight forward will but I want to make sure my wishes are carried out. The reviews are so poor. How did you decided?

I talked to friends and neighbours - you’re right to be cautious - I didn’t take cost into account.

Make sure that you get a solicitor who has passed the relevant exams that allow him to practice as a Wills and Probate specialist.. Any reasonable sized legal partnership will have someone practising in that field.

Look online for a list of solicitors in your area. There websites will tell you which partner specialises in what field. If the do not have Wills and Probate specialist mentioned go elsewhere.

Unless you are making a very complicated will with multiple trusts and oversea assets, will making is not that complicated a job and the solicitor would not have passed his exams if he wasn't up to the job.

Just to point out that at some time last year, I think it was in the summer, some solicitors were offering reduced prices for wills, for a month or so.
