MNRC Grrrrrr check your tax summary

Having just received my annual tax summary for 2016-17 I have been taxed on my savings which I should not have been as I am a lower rate tax payer. In addition when I take the total shown and calculate the 20% tax due even that is wrong! Surely they should be able to work out the simple calculation of 20%

I called and of course had to hang on for ages but eventually I got through to Susan when put me on hold and then cut me off. I called back and spoke to Mark who had no listening skills at all and told me it was right. No it isn't. He told me it was right on his screen and expected me to accept that. I asked if it was corrected last June as he said then why was the document sent to me wrong? He couldn't answer and wouldn't put me through to someone who could. He told me they don't have a complaints department but I know they do. He said a senior person will call me back within 48 hours. Grrrr They owe me £195.59 but I suppose I will have to wait for my P60s to claim it. I went through this last year too!

Anyone got any ideas how to get them to do their job properly? I have previously complained to my MP but heard nothing.

I am an employer Nonnie and I HATE dealing with HMRC. I also hate to generalise but I'm sure the people on the other end of the phone (when you eventually get through that is) are either handpicked for being nasty, unfeeling and couldn't care less or else they are robots. If they were a business they would be deemed unfit for purpose!

About 2 years ago one of my employees (a young father) was at the end of his tether and considering giving up work as HMRC were taking a ridiculous amount of tax from him in PAYE which was out of my control. He literally broke down in front of me one day and told me that he had contacted them over 50 times and nothing changed. I took his case up and made an official complaint on his behalf. It took about a week for him to get a very large refund but no apology for the stress etc. it seems they don't "do" sorry.

Should read HMRC! I was cross when I typed it!

I bet the employees of HMRC never overpay tax and have to beg for it back!

Just realised that in my haste I didn't think to look at my P60s as it is for last year.

3 phone calls and I've lost the will to live! Why do they patronise me so? I have the paper in front of me and they tell me I am wrong. Now I hear that my Annual Tax Summary is an 'estimate'. The word estimate is not on it and it says how much tax I have paid but they tell me I haven't and really don't like it when I disagree with them.

The last one wasn't as bad but did tell me she didn't like it when I spoke as I did, which I imagine is in their training. I think she was surprised when I responded that I didn't like it when she interrupted what I was saying and when I asked a question she answered a different one!

As I have said on another thread, I will not be bullied again.

Well dong Gilly for standing up to them for your staff, it is hard but worthwhile.

Funny they don't have a complaints department when they did a few weeks ago.
