Equity release

Equity release has had bad press in the past. But times are changing, there are more flexible pacakges and lower rates for people to access. My parents dealt with a guy called Glen at Equity Released 2U, he went over all the options and what suited them. I would highly recommend getting intouch if you are interest. Yes we did a couple of years ago, and we have got no regrets.
The thing is to look into it very carefully before you decide as it's not for everyone.
We read as much as we could about it, so when the reps came round we were pretty clued up about what it was all about.
They were absolutely not pushy,(and would have been shown the door if they were!) and encouraged us to think about other options such as downsizing, which we didn't want to do.

Our situation is that here in the Home Counties like so many areas, house prices have shot up so much over the years that we found ourselves unwittingly over the dreaded Inheritance Tax threshold, despite not having a huge house.
We therefore decided that it would make sense to release some equity to spend on whatever we want, rather than it going to the taxman when we are no longer here.

There is a lot of flexibility now with the schemes, to enable you to either not pay anything, or to pay the interest each year which of course would stop the debt rising.

You will probably read some negative comments about doing this, but if you go into it with your eyes open, having done as much research as you can, then it may be right for you.
