The phone hardly ever rings these days , it is so disappointing when it turns out to be a sales call

Many years ago we signed up to Telephone Preference Service, they filter out cold calls, touch wood and whistle, we rarely get cold calls of any kind!

I've had this phone call a few times but it comes as a recorded message. A friend received a similar call and was very distressed.

This scam has been doing the rounds for months.

I think HMRC always contact by letter, never by telephone. I agree it could be very worrying for anyone less aware of the scams that are around these days.

our accountants advice was not to call back ,they will try to get you to pay over the phone any amount they think you can pay ,from a few hundred pounds up.Though there is also a number that costs a lot of money just to ring back .So just ignore .

last week we got a phone call/recorded msg supposedly from HMRC .The very posh voice said that this was a fianl warning and we should expect an arrest warrant for non payment of tax. Within 48 hours. To learn more about the case we should call them asap ... they left a number .Now as I am fully aware of our tax payments and the fact that we have always paid any money we owe on time I was a bit put out.I'm not gullible though and the fact that the voice didn't use any name of the person facing arrest made me think it was a scam.I called my OH who was out on a job and he phoned our accountant who confirmed the return phone number was in fact a much publicied number used in a scam.Since that call I've had the same call three times ..all threatening arrest within 48 hours .A call like this could cause a great deal of distress to someone more vulnerable than me so be aware of it and dont panic .It came from an 001 number .
