If he is retiring he may be getting a large pension pot pay out and may be able to pay you something out of that if not all of the amount, worth trying.You could always use for the children if you feel guilty about spending on yourself, it may help them if they are at university or saving for a home of their own.

Same happened to me Hilda Three children and off he goes into the sunset and not one penny came my way nothing for the children not even a biryhday card but a few times a year he’d ring up to see how we were all doing and always promises promises but nothing ever happened
The upside was I didn’t have to send the children backwards and forwards they were stable and we got by

Reminds me of when I went for my divorce back in the 80s....knew ex would not pay a thing no matter what judge said. Asked if I could have a bigger share of house in lieu....was told tartly that it was not really allowed as 'I might spend it all on drink or something'. Of course he never paid a penny not even to daughter.....just disappeared and phoned up the once asking if I'd re-morgage house to help him out!!

If the alimony was due at the amount stated it needs investigation, because it certainly seems you are owed all this back money.
Even if you have no need of it you could gift it to a charity of choice.

I'm not sure what to do . It seems a terrible thing to do to him after all these years , we were only married for 7 so I wonder now why the lawyer stated that he had to pay me alimony . Does anyone else receive this ?

Never any harm in investigating your rights I would say,after all £16,000 is a healthy and significant amount of money,certainly not to be snubbed.

He is still alive,you have firm proof of what the agreement was but since he has failed in his obligation I have a feeling he could me made to "cough up"..............go for it.
