Can anyone tell me if I have, by law, to have notices up outside to say that we have CCTV? My daughter says we do.

As long as its only recording your property and any offence occurs on your property then you can use it in evidence, you don't need signs up.
Signs must be used for commercial property to tell you that you are being recorded.

I have a motion activated detector on my front door and both back doors. I can see and speak to intruders, the Amazon delivery man, the milk man (1.30am) and next door’s cat.

Loving the idea of talking to the cat Anja!

Thanks everybody, especially MissAdventure for the link. I`ll get a couple of signs put up. The police have been a couple of times in the last 3 years to view footage when crimes have taken place, never mentioned needing signs though.

I suppose that your daughter is quite right. But I'm not a specialist

Probably, it is still necessary to hang ads that the camera is there. But I wouldn't hang it up if my cameras don't really take pictures of the street. I just want to install an Ajax security system on the advice of my friends and I think that I need one camera on the street for sure. But I wouldn't want the whole street to be visible. In this case, you also need a warning? Very strange. I have to walk around the streets and see if there are ads for cameras, and then I never paid attention to it. Well, I hope that it is not necessary to warn that there are cameras in the house.
