Instead of keeping unused money in a current account I move it around to different 1yr savings accounts.
My recent 5% account with M&S is due to renew at the same rate on 6th Sept and I have one with Halufax at 2.5%.
Today I made an appt with my local Virgin Money store to open a savings account paying 3% with no salary pay-in. This is only available in store, not online or by phone.
There are decent rates if you look but they're only worth it if you want to squirrel away a few thousand somewhere safe, rather than have it sitting doing nothing.
