Card details over the phone

I'm guessing here that your treatment might cost more than the maximum of contactless payments. I think the limit is £45 now

Personally I'd happily pay over the phone, but if you're not happy explain the situation to them

I expect that the treatment cost will be over the contactless level., so they won’t want you to be touching the keypad.
I won’t ever give any details over the phone, but in this instance think I’d say I will phone you then you will be sure it is your dentists surgery calling.
So many scams about, we can’t be too careful.

The amount is not over the £45 limit as I paid part of it last week which they accepted in the reception area. The receptionist simply put the card reader down on a desk, stepped away and I scanned my card. Nothing difficult about that is there?

This is a relatively new dental surgery to me and I sense that the receptionist is flexing her muscles a little. I see no problem with contactless payments under any circumstances. Thank you for your good wishes on the treatment!

I always wonder about giving card details over the phone. Anyone could write the info down whilst taking an order and use it. My credit card company is very good at picking up possible fraudulent transactions but it means your card being cancelled and not getting it back for several days.

If it is on the NHS, the practice can ask for payment prior to the actual treatment which could be what they are doing.

Must say I do give out my card details if I am pretty sure of whom I gíving them to. I do a check each day in the evening on both my bank acount and my credit card. Takes just a couple of minutes on my phone, that way I would note any fraudelent use of either of these very quickly.

Yes, they can have the payment prior to the treatment.....when I arrive at the dental surgery tomorrow morning!

When I buy online I only ever use sites displaying the secure padlock image, no image......no payment!

This is a new dental surgery to me, only visited once and that was last week for my check-up. The receptionist phoned me the previous day on that occasion and asked for payment, I told her then that I would pay contactless on arrival, she was ok with it last week!
