I would speak to your solicitor. He may have been coerced into giving this lady money. It may be difficult to prove, but it makes the case of you not knowing about it, stronger I would think. They would take into account, his mental health when he died.
So sorry you have this to contend with at such a sad time?

I think they only need to know about large sums of money to check that your dad didn't give money away to avoid death duties. These days the amount you can leave behind without paying tax is about £800 if he has himself inherited a share from his wife or partner - the solicitor would know about this. If his estate was worth less than this, I wouldn't worry about it, but it might be worth running it by the solicitor so you don't get any nasty surprises down the line.

i told solicitor dad had not given any large sums of money to anyone in last 7 years i thought this was the honest truthon my dogs life. but just going through his paper work he died recently all straight forward only me in the will,no other family, when i came accross a bank transfer receipt for £11,000,to a lady he knows that has her own cafe, she rarely visited, this was in 2018,he was 80 years old in 2019 she did not evan visit with a card or small gift .she used to visit maybe 2 x a year usually with a sob story.feel angry she had this much money then did not evan visit him,is it worth telling solicitor ,i know she can not pay money back so what would be the point
