The person whose child you are caring for signs over the pension credit that they get for receiving child benefit to you. Check the HMRC website for details.

I have just found out that if you are caring for grandchildren you can top up your pension - have I read this properly? I do look after grandchildren twice/week, paid additional money into my pension pot over year ago to give me a reasonable amount of monthly pension which I only have started to receive. If I had this information to hand at that time I may not have had to use savings to give me a decent monthly pension. Fairly annoyed.
