I have tried a few times now, I get so far, put in passport details, and they ask when I last applied for a credit card, only ever had one and that was over five years ago so put that in, then they are something else and something else which I filled in to the best of my ability and then get this!! So frustrating and the worst thing is there is no number to call anybody to get some help ??.. I do have short term memory loss tried to google if there was any way they could help me fill in this with this condition obviously couldn’t find anything

Shinamae I may be wrong, but I don't remember being asked when I last applied for a credit card when I set up my Gateway account. Why do they need to know that? Are you sure it was a genuine site?

I googled it and found this page - www.freeagent.com/glossary/government-gateway/

It looks as though you can't actually join the gateway any more. Very odd.

Ther IS a helpline, at www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/online-services-helpdesk Contact them.

Like all UK Government IT projects, it cost a vast amount of money and didn't work! grin

With the help of another gransnetter, who provided me with a phone number I have spoken to a very nice lady and she has put my mind at rest that I am receiving the correct amount of state pension.....?

What is the number to ring, please, and what information do you need to give them?

I am registered, but my husband is not. He tried to register a while ago, but his passport has expired and he still has an old driving licence. I don't think he has ever had a credit card in his own name (honestly, I despair of him at times). Anyway, he kept being bounced by the online system, and decided to wait until it mattered. He will be 66 on his next birthday, and wants to know how much he will have to pay to buy back the years he was opted out.

Is it possible for the kind gransnetter to pass the number on to me?

A couple of weeks ago, I was also tearing my hair out trying to call several numbers re a pension forecast, all the numbers cut me off after pressing the obligatory numbers on the phone pad.angry

I had tried the government site but as with the OP, I was unable to provide answers that the site would accept.

I have since received my National insurance contribution statement.
This provided a number to get in touch with government pension helpline.
I tried it several times each time the number was unattainable.

I searched for it and came across this page. calcvat.uk/
It seems that joining the gateway is no longer possible, which is strange. However, there is a helpline available at...https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/online-services-helpdesk
