Purchasing items from the EU

As a resident UK citizen I wish to buy an item from Germany valued at 1,999 EUR (£1,690). The price already includes 19% VAT, excluding shipping costs. Also mentioned is this: "Net export price: 1,679, 83 EUR."

My query is this: will I also be charged any extra import duties by UK Customs & Excise?

Thanks in advance.

I always go with ‘expect the worse but hope for the best’. You just don’t know.

I think you will and it could be costly. A friend on mine lives in Spain and when she orders from the UK she is charged a lot of tax. I think the limit is £50 purchase price.

That pretty much settles it. I'll have to think of another way round the problem. . . if one exists, which I rather doubt. Anyway, thanks for the tip. It's much appreciated.

Just had a quick look on The Guardian newspaper and they say it can be anywhere between 0 and 25% of the purchase price, depending on what you are purchasing, then add VAT onto the Import Tax at 20%, then a Courier Handling fee, minimum of £11.00 for DHL so I imagine other Couriers will follow.
Could be a costly buy.
