Is Lasting Power of Attorney the same as PoA?

Do not bother to ring a solicitor. Ring the Office of the Public Guardian who administer PoAs. They are really helpful.

They are not interchangeable terms. PA is for a limited time and may also be for specific tasks. LPAs, which replaced EPAs though an existing EPA remains valid, are intended to last for the donor’s lifetime or until formally revoked.

I think the Lasting Power of Attorney replaced the Power of Attorney. Yes there are two….one for health and one for financial matters.

Do think carefully about your wishes, they are only known to you until you ask the appointed person(s) to start handling your affairs.

There are two LPAs, one for health and welfare, the other for finances. Although the forms are the same, it does say on the bottom of each page ( in small writing) which of the two types it is.

The finance LPA can be invoked at any time if the attorneys need to offer support but the medical one can only be used if the donor has lost capacity.

I am an attorney for my mum and went with her to a solicitor as she wanted to use one to set up the LPAs. I recently did LPAs for myself but did them online for a fraction of the cost.

Sometimes these documents are called Power of Attorney and at other times they are called Lasting Power of Attorney which is the full title. They are very different to the old Enduring Power of Attorney which are still valid but cover less - can’t remember the details though.

Yes I've looked at the gov website.
But I have to sign two docs which have the same ref number on them.
They are exactly the same and didnt refer to either medical or financial implications.
I'll have to ring the solicitor to ask.
I didnt want to seem too thick when I did, hence the original question.
I looked on here as I'm sure it's been asked before, but couldn't see anything helpful.

They are two different documents, all very well described and explained on the government website gov.uk or on AgeUK website.
