Widows with underpaid state pension

As I'm sure many of you have noticed this has been in the news lately (and there's a summary at www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/married-women-missing-state-pension-boost/).

One thing that's unclaer to me is - can the estate of a widow who has since died ask for this be reviewed and put in a claim if necessary?

Any experience out there?

It does say "may" so it's worth following up I would have thought.

DH tried to find out if his elderly mother had been paid the correct amount of state pension as he had Power of Attorney.

He heard nothing and then his mother died so he wrote to DWP asking them to speed up the claim as she had died and he can't apply for probate without knowing if she is owed anything.

DWP replied saying they did owe her money and sent him a form to fill in but we have heard nothing since.

It's very frustrating as she could be owed thousands or just 4 weeks state pension as it is paid in arrears. The length of the arrears would depend on when she received the payment and the date she died.
