When our phone rang yesterday and I had an anounced call from RBS fraud department ( we have BT call guardian ) and the person calling had a friendly Glasgow accent I was inclined to to believe it was genuine . The man said did I recognise a payment to Argos of £750 that was on our account . I said that I did not but wanted to confirm he was genuine . He then told me to give him a mobile phone number he could ring and when it did I would recognise the call as coming from the number on the back of my debit card . When he said this I said " You know what to be sure I will phone you " At that the phone went dead. I wish I had quizzed him as to which of our accounts he was speaking about . I phoned RBS fraud department and was assured it was a scam . I was told they seldom phone a customer about about a fraud but would send a text.
