A legacy benefit is one that is in the process of being phased out to be replaced by Universal Credit. There are a few, and all are income based (means tested). They include Jobseekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit. Contribution based benefits are not legacy benefits as they will remain payable and not replaced by UC.

Reading these posts I can't help thinking that the DWP love to make life complicated with so many different benefits. Not everyone can manage to understand or fill in a form on their own. How do they cope?

So the judge agreed that it was discriminatory to disabled, but still not upheld, because the intention stated by the Govt was to give a boost to the newly unemployed during Covid. Not an acceptable argument in my opinion. Not everyone on Universal Credit was newly unemployed.
This is so full of holes, I pray that grounds for Appeal are put forward. All credit to those who have got it this far.

We have 12,000 signatures so far, so we will at least get a response from the government, bye we really need that 100,000 to get us to the point of consideration for debate in Parliament.

@Poppyred some petitions do and we won't get anywhere if we don't try, this is a lot of money to those of us who were discriminated against and the disabled get a bad enough deal as it is.

@FannyCornforth Legacy benefits are what the government calls all the 'old type' benefits that people who haven't yet been migrated across to Universal Credit are still on. I believe the idea is that eventually all benefits will be rolled into one system (UC) which will have different elements that mirror the old benefits. I may be wrong but that's the way the DWP explained it to me.

Petitions don’t work……

It seems fair to me that the £20 top-up temporarily paid to claimants during the pandemic should apply to all of them. The benefits system along with the Pension Service needs a proper sorting out to make it far easier for people to understand and access.
