How long does it take to get probate sorted?

When I was widowed it took quite a few months as we had to wait for the results of the inquest. I think there are a lot of factors to take into consideration but I’m not an expert by any means

My MIL died 6 years ago, and although she's left a will, the probate dragged on for ages, about 7 months I think.

My mother died last September and l have hired a solicitor to execute her will. In peoples experience how long has it taken to get the grant of probate through.
