Or has the council site got a personal details page or similar where you need to inform them of details of new card? If this is the case, they should have known at the Council office, but some individuals can be assertive when they just are not bothered about getting the facts right.

That's odd, Kim 19. Probably an unpopular idea, but have you tried complaining to NewDay to see if they can do anything?

I did the transition without problem, thank goodness (avoided having the faff of moving on!). However..... my local council's system will not accept my new card when I try to pay online even although I had previously been successful with this for years. Don't quite know what to do about this as it's working perfectly well elsewhere. Went into the Council office but they were completely indifferent and unhelpful. Any thoughts or suggestions would really be appreciated by me.

It's taken a long time for me to get back to this thread, because several friends have been ill.
Thanks for your story, glammagran, I suppose our problems are due to non-human decision making.
My complaint was apparently investigated by NewDay and they confirm they made the right decision, one of the 3 reasons given being that my address was invalid. They have now written to me at that same 'invalid' address giving me details of how to take my case to an Ombudsman.
They also inform me my income is under £5000.00 a year. Which my accountant would confirm is wrong.
I just feel it isn't worth the time and effort as it is not essential to have their credit card. So I'm giving up. Boo hoo! There are worse things could happen, but this just seems so unjust.

Look at some of the reviews of NewDay on Trustpilot which exemplify my experience. When a payment of mine was bounced they were adamant my bank was at fault (FD who have been my bank ever since they started up over 20 years ago) said categorically that the payment had left my account. I was never able to look at my statements “due to a system error” I spent hours of my life on hold to NewDay who when I eventually spoke to someone with a brain cell, blamed their IT systems. After several weeks of this I closed my account. Even though I have done this I am still receiving emails telling me to access my monthly statement even though I closed my account by phone having paid my balance in full. Of course I can’t access my account because it is closed. ?

My replacement card is up and running smoothly so far ?

How to alienate long term customers!

I have had a JL Partnership card for many years with very few issues. I took out a Debenhams credit card a couple of years ago, run by Newday. They were an utter nightmare causing me no end of problems with their error strewn I.T. systems. I cleared my balance and closed my account. When I found out JL were ditching HSBC (understandably) and going with Newday to handle their customer accounts I’ve decided not to take up their offer of a new card.

My card arrived about a week after the pin.

Would you believe, I had a good moan about being rejected when I went to pay my bill at the weekend and was told I should spend, spend spend on my JL card up to the end of October in case I'm never allowed near again! Trouble is, I need no encouraging!

I am so much happier with my cc system now. I keep a backup card with smile, just for 2k and use that about once a month, simply to keep it alive

My halifax system is really good, for me. I can see my 3 accounts, current, savings and cc all at the same time and that enables me to easily transfer what is needed to pay cc off. My savings account is the safety net/holding account and I no longer get into a tizz to make sure that cc funds are available to pay cc off each month. Had the cc a month now. JL card messup proved to be a good thing for me

New Day are closing their connection with Amazon very shortly.. all those with a New Day/ Amazon CC>. have now been given the option to transfer to Pulse

I'd missed the choice of card online for login, but password and pin still not accepted. However, the address was given for correspondence and have written a letter. Might take some time but at least feel I'm on right track, and don't really want to cancel card.

If you log in to the JL finance site you can choose which card to log in to, if that helps.

Thank you, but I have had no message or letter from John Lewis and as user name no longer 'valid', I can't get into site to change anything. I think I'm going to leave it and see what happens. I'll cancel my direct debit, and just do without the card. Annoying and shouldn't be like this but simplifies life a little bit!

Mine all went very smoothly but had to wait nearly 2 weeks for the card to come after getting the pin. Did all I needed to do with the card and changed the pi, then went into Waitrose bought a couple of things and paid by my new card, worked well. Then went home and tested paying off the monead tat wnt wel well. So all good here.

I'm way behind with John Lewis card news, but have just had my logging in details rejected, and spent ages trying to contact someone to help. I didn't have a letter, and until yesterday was using card without problem.
Everything I do now is either rejected or invalid... told to go online, but no help.
Am I one of the people who, after years of loyalty, has been turned down for new card?
I suppose I can go into Waitrose (no John Lewis shop anywhere near) and see if they can suggest something.

Karmalady like you, I spent a frustrating hour, at least, yesterday, trying and failing to activate the JL card. I'd already downloaded the new app. I almost gave up and cancelled the card, but decided to ring Customer Services. I was able to activate my card through the automated system. From there I was transferred to a human, where I set up a DD to pay the Statement balance each month. The incredibly helpful man on the phone then directed me to the online registration form. I had to create a new User name and password. Thanks to this lovely gentleman I still have an account with JL. Today I have used the card for the first time. The Chip and pin method must be used before Contactless payments are made. But I agree with you, it's a clumsy system, bit 'chicken and egg' if you see what I mean. I needed a gin and tonic by the end of my ordeal.

Crikey, big brother is alive and kicking!! As I clicked the laptop for my post )above) my mobile pinged; a text from John Lewis telling me they had just emailed me an invitation to apply for the new card........

well, I am deeply offended by JL! I have had an email informing me that the current accounts close at end of October, and when I went online to pay, there were two sections; one for the existing cards, and one for the new one. I have not received an email invitation for a new card. I checked my credit score just in case something had gone awry, but nope all ok. I pay in full when I use it. Oh well, it is their loss.

I hate the card and the clumsy account so have closed it without using it. I don`t need the high limit anyway

I had to go around the world to activate it, which I got to in the end and my username was not what I wanted. I decided that this was not good so I hit the cancel button. I shall stick with what I have in a real bank

Karmalady I too expected the RM strike to affect the prompt delivery of my new John Lewis card. No such thing. The card and the pin, arrived last Saturday.
