Have you had your fuel price increase?

I am with SSE and I haven't clue what is happening, and from the communications I get from them, they don't either.

I have been paying bills quarterly by direct debit. To begin with I got a £900 bill for the second quarter of the year. I did nothing because we were told bills would be going up and this was about 3 timesthe usual quarterly bill.

About a montha afo, I had a message from them, telling me that the June bill was completely wrong and they would be repaying over £500 of the £900. However, this arrived as I filed the return for the September quarter and they did not make it clea whether the refund was before or after taking out the value of the September quarter.

Last week I got an email saying that they were ceasing to do quarterly direct debit and I would be moved to monthly payments. Fait enough. Except they then told me my monthly payment would be £600. There was no indication whether this was before or after the extra money to fuel bills from the government.

Today i got an email apologising for last weeks email as it was all wrong that they hadn't included the government payments and my annual energy bill was going up just under £200.

Then I got further down the bill, it said I should make sure I sent in my meter readings before 1st October to make sure,I squeezed every penny out of the pre- 1st October- lower prices.

So I have not got a clue as to what my energy bills might be this winter and neither, clearly, do SSE.

I would like to move to Octopus, but alternative suppliers are not accepting transfers because we are all on variable rates, and there we should stay.

DD is with Octopus and sings its praises, I just want to get away from SSE but can't

Martin Lewis has put a very useful guide on his Instagram page,it helps to work out how much electrical items cost to run.

Lots of us learnt this at school, but people might like a reminder.

1000 w = 1 kW

At 34p approx per kW per hour

100 w (ie 1/10th of a kW) running for 2 hours would cost 3.4p x 2 ie 68p.

This can be multiplied by the 'wattage' of your item.

My dehumidifer is 400w, I'm reassured it only costs pennies per hour.

I live in a 3 bedroom, modern well insulated house and yesterday when I checked the smart meter I had used £9 worth of gas and £14 of electricity since the 29th of this month. I do switch the heating on but I am more careful with it and the electricity. My fixed tariff finishes next July.

I’m with Scottish Power - my DD has increased to £400 pm.

Heard from octopus this morning and my payment should be £51.22 a month until April that is obviously taking into account the governments contribution. My direct debit is about three times that much and I intend to keep it that way…

My Nextdoor but one neighbour has posted on our local Facebook page that his monthly DD has gone up to £618.
His house is probably a little smaller than mine but he has two young teenagers who probably live in their rooms and he works from home so has converted his garage into an office.
Such payments cannot be sustainable especially as another rise is due in January.
Mine for comparison has gone to £302 per month.
I am trying to cut down considerably.

I tell a lie, they have changed our charges - but didn't notify us as they said they would. I had to delve into the 'plan' details.

They are saying we can reduce the DD by £26 per month and apparently we are still on fixed tariff terms until June 2024. So now I'm wondering if I'm protected from a further rise in January. Will January rises go ahead?

We were on a fixed tariff with OVO and are still waiting to hear what our new charges will be. They say the new tariff will be backdated to 1st October. Is anyone else in the same boat?

I am with EonNext with dual fuel and I gave my monthly reading on 29th Sept so it was received before 1st October as requested,up until now only the Gas statement has come through t me as yet and it has gone up £19 per month no sign of the Electric element as yet and no sign of £67 payment on my account they are quick enough to send for readings but don't send the amount due to be paid very bad customer service I have about £400 in credit on my account at the minute.

Our bills went up at the beginning of this month. We’re in the Mersey/North Wales area.

I've been spooked by Bulb being in special administration. I don't want them going under with my money!

I've cancelled some subscriptions and have put £200 per month aside for my dual fuel bills.

I'm with Octopus and have managed to build up a small amount of credit which I'm sure will be used up quickly. As for not having the money in the bank, the interest rates up until now have been dismal and it would have been pennies, hardly worth bothering with.

I know the £2500 is average spend but who is this Mr Average? According to my supplier I use 30% more than the average user. Well they must not turn anything on as I can’t see how I can reduce my usage and still eat hot food and keep the house and clothes clean. I think a lot of people are going to be shocked at how much over the £2500 they go.

Another Octopus fan here, although they wouldn’t repay my credit balance in full, so I took £300, reduced my DD and am still £300 in credit, which I’m happy with. My agreement runs another year, but after that I’ll probably stay with them as the App is so easy to understand.

Mine has risen from £65 to £75. I’ve had a credit balance all summer and the £66 we will all get has been added. Haven’t had the central heating on since April despite being old and living in a cold old house.

I find Octopus to be so good, explaining everything and allowing me the choice of leaving the £300 in credit or having it transferred to my bank account. I only paid around £35 this month as the £66 was debited from my account.

I know I will receive a very nasty shock next July when my fixed rate ends unless a miracle happens which I doubt.

I totally agree that octopus are very very good. I am fixed till next July as well ?

If the price cap is 27%, how come OVO has increased its gas charges by 40%?

How much are they charging you per KWh?

I've requested my credit balance back. I'll be paying the £200+ DD but the balance I'd accrued will cover that for over 4 months.

My DD for October went from £70 to £4. I realise this is the first payment of the £400 and that any price increase from Oct 1st has not kicked in yet, but I am happy with that.

EonNext has reduced my direct debit payment from £119.79 to £52.79 with no explanation as to why. As the difference is £67 I have to assume that is due to the payment made by the govt.

To those who are thinking I live in a box I am actually in a 4 bedroom semi. We have a Combi boiler for hot water and central heating and solar panels on the roof. The loft and underfloor are insulated but the walls are unfortunately solid.

If, like me, you are on the capped tariff but your company are increasing your direct debits despite the £67 a month subsidy why not simply change company?

Are you in a flat or a house growstuff? I do live in a house, but we're seriously frugal and I'm paying the same as my bloke in a big detached place. How is that the case?
