I’ve just googled it Kk and the limit is £5K before probate is needed - what a faff if someone only had a little over that.

It is, might mean £4,900 in Premium Bonds moving forward to avoid any faff!

I’d check with a solicitor.

No need really is there, its a basic question to see if anyone else has experience of this, thanks though

Yes a believe if the amount is about £5,000 you have to go through Probate.

Thanks Bikergran for taking the time to respond.

So, if you have everything in joint names and a Will leaving everything to your Spouse and it is under the inheritance tax threshold, is there any need to obtain probate? I think not, BUT if there are, say, £20,000 of Premium Bonds, would N.S. & I insist that probate be applied for, it appears that is the case from what I have read. Does anyone have any experience with this? thank you.
