OH and I have both had small wins on this month's Premium Bonds. It actually adds up to the excess on our motor insurance, which is lucky as my car was run into by a hit and run person, whilst parked outside the house. I'm being very Zen about this smile

£125 between us.

After many months of winning, usually small amounts, but last month £250, I was very disappointed not to win a bean this month despite reading the odds had increased this month and there were many more prizes.
However I was heartened to read that one of the million prize winners had a very small holding, less than £5k I think.

The odds of winning have not increased - there are the same number of prizes each month - but there are far less £25 prizes from form while the number of higher prize values have increased. You still have a 1:24,000 chance of winning but prize values are supposed to be higher - potentially.
Having said that, I and my husband got three £25 prizes this month which is less than usual from our maximum holdings. Still - maybe next month!

I have worked out that we got 1.65% in winnings in 2022. Not too bad and there was always the chance of a million!!

I see someone with £2.00 won £50,000. Must be very old bonds, i didnt win anything this month, but have won £25 most months, far more than the interest rate, so keeping my bonds no matter what Martin Lewis says

I've had Premium Bonds for 50 years and never won a penny.

NSI were very clever when they invented PBs by calling monthly interest 'winnings'. It encouraged millions to invest than would do normally. It's an interest account and for the large majority of us with small holdings we don't earn much in interest. My policy is to change bonds regularly if they don't pay interest over the year. The current interest rate has just gone up to 3%. I didn't earn any interest this month but over the past 12 months averaged 2% on four small bonds bought 2 years ago. Cashing in bonds this month which gave me 0% over 12 months and buying new ones in the hope they are "winners"..

My mum had a few wins about 10 years ago - a couple of £25, a £50, and a £500. Followed by nothing. Until now - she's just won £300!

They do if your details are up to date it’s easy enough to check
on the NS&I website.

Do they let you know if you win these days? We saved up to get married 62 years ago and won nothing. We left £10 in when we cashed them in. Wonder if those bonds have disintegrated as they are churned around in Ernie? We have another £1,500 put in about thirty years ago. Now we don’t add any more as we decided to have everything in joint names as we want as few problems as possible when the inevitable happens.

£175 for me this month and I am very happy

Doodledog Wed 04-Jan-23 22:17:32

£50 for me this month.

Ziplok Wed 04-Jan-23 21:45:59

And actually, it’s nice to read about some good news amidst all the gloom and doom we are bombarded with by various media.

Ziplok Wed 04-Jan-23 21:39:47

Sorry, but I disagree Floradora. I’m not rolling in it myself, certainly don’t have thousands in bonds (nothing, in fact), but I don’t begrudge anyone having a win nor them sharing their news on this thread. Good luck to them.

Floradora9 Wed 04-Jan-23 21:27:42

When some people are really struggling to pay the bills to feed themselves and heat their homes perhaps this thread is not very sensitive to the situation some of us might be in . Stating that you have so many thousands of pounds worth when others have never ever had that kind of money , sorry this is wrong .

Nothing for me but £100 for DH. He has the full amount of bonds, I have less. He often wins, I have never won anything.

Luckygirl3 Wed 04-Jan-23 15:43:10

£150 this month - I am very pleased.

Liz46 Wed 04-Jan-23 15:39:55

£125 for me and £250 for my husband.

SunshineSally Wed 04-Jan-23 15:38:04

Nothing for me 🫣 but £50 for DH 👏

Dee1012 Wed 04-Jan-23 13:44:50

I started off with around £500 in premium bonds and also had a standing order (small amount) to purchase more each month. For around 2 years I won each month, usually £25 but it was a really nice little 'gift'.
I stopped the standing order for some months and didn't win anything over that period so, decided to reinstate the standing order...I've won every month since then, again only £25.
Coincidence?

Pittcity Wed 04-Jan-23 13:39:48

£325 this month. Best win yet.
I like to check the list of big winners and saw that somebody with just £2 in bonds won £10,000!
