Another £125, second this year. That's over £1,000 total this year!

Pearlsaminger Sat 06-May-23 11:41:43

Only ever won £50 once and £25 twice

Party time 🎉

Well done one and all !! No bonds in this house but tempted to invest

holcombemummy60 Sat 06-May-23 11:45:09

I have had bonds since I was born now almost 66 and never won a thing

Vintagegirl Sat 06-May-23 12:10:05

£4 in bonds for over 65 years.... won £25 in 1967.....

BazingaGranny Sat 06-May-23 12:12:34

As far as I know, I haven’t ever won anything. Am I supposed to check myself, or do I get an email or some sort of a message from the Premium Bonds people? Must investigate!

EEJit Sat 06-May-23 12:30:21

Not a penny, ever

Poppyred Sat 06-May-23 12:37:45

You need at least £5000 plus to be in with a good chance of winning anything. Not always…but mostly.

Dizzyribs Sat 06-May-23 13:17:38

All the money given to me as a baby until I was 10 went into premium bonds and I have never won even 1d let alone 1p 🤷🏻‍♀️

NorthFace Sat 06-May-23 13:42:23

After the 2008 crash and interest rates plummeted, I was urged to invest by someone who said they received a prize almost every month. I held the max for two years. I didn’t win a penny.

I now have £50,000 in a 4.5% tax free ISA earning £2250 a year guaranteed which pays for my council tax. Now retired, I can’t leave investment to chance.

Martin Lewis says:

The average return on Premium Bonds is 3.3%, but you won't earn that even with average luck.

If you won't earn over the personal savings allowance, and have average luck, Premium Bonds are unlikely to beat top savings.

What you'll win over a year with average luck, based on the 3.3% rate:

£10,000 £225 = 2.25%
£20,000 £625 = 2.5%
£50,000 £1275 = 2.55%

True, I forgo the chance of winning the big prize but the odds of someone winning a million are 1 in 60 billion (60,095,684,349).

Seeing as I never managed to win even £25, I'm sticking with a challenger bank.

I won £550 this month - amazing! Am going to put £500 towards a replacement wedding ring and the rest into new paint for the kitchen walls.

madeleine45 Sat 06-May-23 14:57:29

never won a bean and have a couple of £1 amongs them so that is how long ago have had them

SaylerWade Sat 06-May-23 15:02:06

Wow! Heartfelt Congratulations to every winner.
My father, G-d rest him, bought me a Premium Bond upon my entry into this world, over half a century ago. I've never won. Anything. So I am really pleased to read of all these winners and their winnings

Much Good Luck & Best Wishes to All

Charleygirl5 Sat 06-May-23 15:05:34

BasingaGranny you have to check that the premium bond company is up to date with your details. Each month I google in Premium Bonds, type in my number and I know instantly if I have been lucky or not.

Apparently, somebody will knock on your door to tell you personally if you win a million.

narrowboatnan Sat 06-May-23 15:13:58

I have had several £25 wins, but May saw me with a £50 win. My theory is that it's the newer bonds that stand the best chance of winning. I've always had my winnings reinvested in more bonds.

I only know one person ever who won a prize on the Irish Prize Bond draws, (a very small one). I oftern wonder about that, especially after reading the posts here with all the wins.

leeds22 Sat 06-May-23 15:55:15

£100 for me this month. Hadn't won more than £25 for ages.

dizzygran Sat 06-May-23 16:33:28

I am useless. I have some premium bonds. won £25 a few years ago but nothing since. Do I have to check myself now? They used to send a cheque.

Shinamae Sat 06-May-23 16:44:53

I had £350 worth of premium bonds for about four years, but cashed them in this year to help pay for my garden being remodelled..
For people lucky enough to hold the maximum amount of premium bonds How many thousands of pounds is that?..

Naughtyneine Sat 06-May-23 17:01:09

Nearly fell off my chair when I checked...£1000...my OH says I just stared at him then the screen again for about 2 minutes. I even took a photo on my phone. Happy Days

Greciangirl Sat 06-May-23 17:06:26

I bought several £1 premium bonds in the 1960’s but have never had a win on any of them.

I think they are probably buried beneath millions of other bonds deep within Ernie.

hilz Sat 06-May-23 17:44:53

Granted mine are not worth much but have held them for decades and I have never won anything at all.

Charleygirl5 Sat 06-May-23 18:14:35

Shinamae the maximum one can have is £50,000.

kissngate Sat 06-May-23 18:16:30

No wins for me for a while. I cashed in most of my bonds and bought newer ones in the hope they would do better but they haven't won a penny. Will give them six months then withdraw if no different and invest in a fixed interest account now that rates have improved.

Shinamae Sat 06-May-23 18:17:46

Shinamae the maximum one can have is £50,000.

Thank you..
