I don't know about being "pleased". I would rather have had an efficient and effective government in the first place. They have done what they have done and much of it isn't "great".

We've had high inflation for months, but my first state pension increase won't be until 8th May (most people will be the same or very similar).

But you will still get 13 payments at that rate in the financial year, just like everyone else. You do sound as if you are looking for things to complain about when in fact you are being treated just like everyone else.

I would worry much more about someone who doesn't claim or doesn't even know they can.

No, I haven't forgotten. I've received my non-means tested fuel payments, just like everybody else and I've factored them into my monthly budget. They haven't covered the increases in my bills.

I don't receive any additional help, despite my income being low enough for Housing Benefit. Go figure!

How many years are you talking about Primrose? Free school meals have been around for decades - and the eligibility criteria were more generous too.

You are so right. I know people who bash the Govt all the time until I remind them that they have been treated very generously with Winter Fuel Payments, Cost of Living payments and a good rise in state pensions.

I have a friend who is forever posting negative stuff and I remind her that her grandchildren get free school meals and free nursery places …. None of which were around years ago.

There will also be a COL payment in the summer for people in receipt of disability benefits, and an additional payment for those who get the Winter fuel payment in the autumn.

If it and your savings are as low as those getting the benefits you should be getting them too. If it isn't, you won't. What is your measure of a low income?

This doesn't mean it is the only help they will give. This is the only defined release of information I have seen but more may follow.
