to have an account with Private Banking at Coutts

What does that mean then? Am I reading it incorrectly?

what is the proportion of ...

hypothetical question.

To what extent can a private business, not government owned, decide what their own rules are for doing business with them, and refuse or close accounts of people who do not fit in their profile?

to have an account with Private Banking at Coutts
I'm sorry, are there other ways of reading this question?.

^Eligibility questions. To open an account all UK clients and expats are required to save £3m+ or borrow (such as through a mortgage) or invest more than £1m with Coutts. To become an international client, you are required to save, borrow or invest more than £3m with us, depending on your country of residence^
Given that there are financial qualifications to hold an account with Coutts , isn’t that an intrusive question?

Thanks for that info. So, I imagine (but you never know)- that would exclude most of us.

Nat West and First Direct for us- we would certainly not be elegible for Coutts.

Read the OP, I have never asked who on GN is a member of that private bank.

That's why my last sentence was carefully worded to puncture the illusion!

I was thinking the same Foxy.

I couldn’t possibly say!

Once, many years ago, banked with their subsidiary, nat West. Terrible bank, put money into wrong account if I remember, causing delay to payments. Moved from them. Been with Nationwide ever since, no complaints and local branches remain open .

Coutts closed my account, the reason they gave was because I'm on Gransnet.
It's too political, apparently.

I think it's an aspirational thing too - rather like in the 80s people who'd had a bit of success wanting to be a Lloyd's Name.

Joseann Sun 30-Jul-23 11:04:35

My father did, and to make matters more difficult, it was in St. Helier Jersey! 👑 👑 👑
I don't know whether he was pretty rich or not.

BigBertha1 Sun 30-Jul-23 10:58:41

First Direct does for us.

FannyCornforth Sun 30-Jul-23 10:58:03

I with the Nat West!
Does that count?

BlueBelle Sun 30-Jul-23 10:34:29

Hahaha I have two sister in laws who worked for Coutts a good while ago does that count

High street bank standard account for me 😂😂😂

Fleurpepper Sun 30-Jul-23 10:31:20

... have an account with Private Banking at Coutts.

What are the conditions to have an account with them?
I imagine you have to be pretty rich. We certainly would have never fitted their client profile.
