This payment has hit my bank account today and I am very thankful.
Being over 80 and on my own it is £600 .
When my H was alive and we didn’t get the extra cost of living payment we would donate it to charity every year.
Now I am on a much reduced fixed income I do donate some of it but am very grateful to be able to keep warm and cozy.

My Winter fuel payment appeared on my statement today. I'm 80, £600.
My surname comes towards the end of the alphabet if that's any help to anyone.

Surname begins with B nothing yet

Oh thanks to those of you who put me right on this. Much appreciated. 😁

Henetha that £300 was the second CoLiving payment. First was £299. and then a further one for £300 is due in the Spring. This has been for some of us on certain benefits, and is not going to be repeatd in future years. The £600 (over80's) payent is quite separate.

The day of the week that State Pension is paid depends on the last two numbers of your National Insurance number, so that may determine when the Winter Fuel Payment arrives?

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 22-Nov-23 19:24:29

I think that this is a very important payment and I welcome it . When my ( notoriously frugal) mother was alive I encouraged her to keep the house warm by implying that the money would be clawed back if it wasn't spent on heating....

DH and I get our state pensions on the same day, but we didn't get our fuel allowance on the same day. So that can't be the reason. 🤷‍♀️🤣

So does WFP go into our account on regular pension day?

Jane43 Wed 22-Nov-23 21:20:37

I had mine today, DH hasn’t had his yet. Our surname begins with M.

My pension was paid last Friday and I had the WFP today.

I don't remember getting £299. Was it some time ago? Thanks franbern.

Mr C’s WFA payment arrived yesterday, it always appears first. He’s 5 years older than me. Could be a factor? His notification letter also arrives before mine. My retirement pension is received a week before his each month. We’ve always wondered about the logic of the WFA payment system.

I thought the £600 was paid in two payments of £300. not one lump sum!

had £300 and expecting second payment next month

BlueBelle Thu 23-Nov-23 07:50:17

I haven’t had anything yet I keep looking I had the letter weeks ago Wonder if they go by alphabetical order

BlueBelle Thu 23-Nov-23 07:51:24

I thought we were getting £500 that’s what my letter said Lemsip

lemsip Thu 23-Nov-23 07:52:56

mine states £600 in two amounts of £300.

From the DWP website

If you live alone or no one you live with is eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment
You’ll get either :
£500 if you were born between 25 September 1943 and 24 September 1957
£600 if you were born before 25 September 1943

Hopefully this makes it clear.

Thanks RosieMaw, for giving full information of the Winter Fuel Payment, which has been doubled this year. So, for those of us over 80 it is £600, For younger pensioners it is £500. single living or couple living tgether). This is not in any way effected by income.

The other money is the special payment to those on specific benefits and is a total of £900 over twelve months. The first payment was £299 back in the Spring, second payment of £300 being paid now and the final £300 due in Spring 2024. These are called CoL (Cost of Living).

I am surprised as to how many people seem to have little idea as to how much money they are entitled to.

I was thinking the same.

My battery died, otherwise I was about to post the same Franbern and MaryD
I’m sure I’d have noticed a credit payment of £300 on my bank statement! Are the days of checking things thoroughly gone?

henetha Thu 23-Nov-23 10:12:38

I must admit that my knowledge about what I'm entitled to is pretty shaky, but I do check my bank regularly and noticed that £300 had gone in.
Note to self; - Must do better!

Franbern Fri 24-Nov-23 08:51:19

since my credit card was cloned twice within a few months a couple of years ago, I have got into the habit of doing a quick check in both that account and my bank account every morning whilst I have my brekkie. Takes such little effort and time and makes me feel safe. I do keep a note on all monies I am entitled to recieve and know exactly how much money goes out of my bank account by DD, etc. I have a list with how much money I need each month,(I ( divide ALL my costs by 12), and provided that (Micawber like) remains lower than the sum I receive in each month, I am happy.

karmalady Fri 24-Nov-23 09:18:31

I also check my bank account every morning and I use a credit card for everything online as the contract is then between the seller and the cc company and the cc company becomes liable for any scamming. My dd card contains my direct debits such as council tax, car tax etc and I get cash out for purchases

Anyway my wfp came in today and I have already used part of it, it is very much needed and I will be warm. Shocking to see the big rise on my smart meter, now that basic warmth is kicking in overnight. It needs to because underfloor heating downstairs takes an age to get up to the required (safe) temperature and upstairs needs to be 18
