This payment has hit my bank account today and I am very thankful.
Being over 80 and on my own it is £600 .
When my H was alive and we didn’t get the extra cost of living payment we would donate it to charity every year.
Now I am on a much reduced fixed income I do donate some of it but am very grateful to be able to keep warm and cozy.

In summer I wfh quite often...Nice to sit in my garden or summer house and enjoy the outdoirs....now it winter I quite often choose to go into office as its so warm there....26 degrees the other day ....the thermostat just does its own thing ....but lovely to be warm all day and not think about the cosy

This horrid rise in fuel costs is one reason why I'm hoping to go into sheltered housing. There are other reasons too. But the thought of walking into a building which has radiators in all communal areas and corridors is very appealing, plus of course only having to heat a one bed flat instead of a large, chilly 3 bed house......watch this space. smile

I'm V and I always get it quite late

We've not had ours yet, but live in our fluffy 'onesies', we both have two so one can be in the wash and we go to bed with an electric blanket on for a while before we get in, wearing our thermal vests and socks with our jimjams, who said romance is dead! ? Hoping to make it to Christmas before we put the heating on!

My Winter fuel payment goes straight to my electricity provider. I thought that was how everyone got it that way unless you are on a prepayment meter.

Are you thinking of this? It is different from the Winter Fuel payment.

What is the Warm Home Discount?
The Warm Home Discount is a one-off payment to reduce certain customers' energy bills over the winter months.

When can I apply for the Warm Home Discount in 2023?
If your electricity supplier is part of the Warm Home Discount scheme, then you'll get the payment automatically if you or your partner receive the Guarantee Credit portion of Pension Credit. One of you must be named on your bill. Alternatively, if you're in receipt of another 'qualifying benefit' and are considered to have high energy costs, then you'll also receive an automatic payment. Either way, you should receive the discount automatically if you're eligible, so you don't need to apply for it.

^Getting a Warm Home Discount doesn't affect your entitlement to a Winter Fuel Payment or the Cold Weather Payment.^

Probably yes grin

That was a different payment, not the winter fuel payment which is paid into your bank account.

The government have been giving people a lot of money, despite all the criticisms (see polnan above), such that some don’t even understand what they’re getting now.

You can get a Winter Fuel Payment if you were born before 25 September 1957., 57VRS

Most people get a letter informing them.

I’m waiting for my first one. ( am 66) Husband is not pensionable age yet so does anyone know what mine will be and are you supposed to get a letter first?

All you need to know.

My £500 went in yesterday. On the same day I received notification of my car insurance with breakdown cover renewal figure - £484, double last year's!

growstuff Sat 25-Nov-23 13:43:42

Yippee! Mine was credited to my bank account yesterday.

With my current combined gas and electric bill beng around £9 per day - with minimum usage in my opinion, I am really grateful for the Winter fuel allowance and won't be donating any part of it to anyone I'm afraid. I'd rather the price of fuel came down in general though.

I understood the WFP was being sent out by NI numbers. The department had been incorrectly treating us as individuals and not a married couple. The first time we phoned and they said they had no way of taking the money back. The next time we were told they would ring back - still waiting. We phoned again this year and actually got someone sensible who did a bit of digging and realised that our address had been entered incorrectly for both of us ( but not the same) so he had to speak to both of us to confirm our details. Subsequently received a letter and we are getting £500 between us. I asked the chap about the years we had been overpaid and he said as we had tried to get it sorted it was their problem and not ours. Rather regret that I insisted DH phoned them!

TanaMa Sat 25-Nov-23 12:52:08

My initial is tail end of the alphabet but I have just received my £600 - about the same time my pension was paid - so probably linked.

polnan Sat 25-Nov-23 11:48:28

my simple comment is, that the Government could not have made it more confusing, more stressful than anyone else could have done! Sack the lot of `em I say.!
