Passports not in the drawer I always keep them in. Turning the place upside down.

Thought I would have a quick look to see the date of expiry on them/. We use them for id as we haven’t been abroad for quite awhile. Last time was about December /January time when renewing a bond at the building society. Now I am really careful about passports and would have put them back in drawer in the same place. Also I would have been placed them back in my handbag as soon as they were seen. Have had everything out, drawers, handbags looked everywhere. I found an envelope with a receipt for mine which shows the number and date of issue. However, my dh’s envelope probably contains the two missing passports! I looked in the phone bookas I write most things down and there were old passport numbers but not the new ones. This has never happened before. Will I be able to cancel dh’s passport without the number. I remember they were issued from two different offices so I hope the issue date will be the same as on my receipt. Just asking as my head is aching and I know I am supposed to report list passports as soon as possible.

Yup check the suitcases. And look with a torch. That's how I spotted my tablet this afternoon.

I keep coming back to read in the hope that you had found them.

They are probably with my watch and gold bracelet! sad

Definitely saying that prayer to St Anthony.
I had a friend who always depended on him.
Thank you.

Enjoy your G&T, and good luck when searching tomorrow. I have found at times, when mislaying something, I suddenly remember when drifting off to sleep. 🤞

Yes, I'm sure St Anthony told me where to look when I was just drifting off to sleep 😇
It was somewhere I'd searched before more than once.

I feel for you. I am (and always have been) very scatty and have a dreadful habit of putting down what I am holding and going off to do something else. Both my parents were very organised it isn't something I have got from them. Las5 week alone I lost my purse (fortunately a very kind person handed it in to the local tourist info centre, it was then listed on the lost and found page which a colleague saw) and the details of my energy supplier switch which I had carefully copied out neatly ( had to spend well over an hour sorting that out on the telephone). Don't rush to cancel the passports as they will probably turn up in the strangest of places!

Just a thought, have you looked in your suitcases?

Sago Mon 15-Apr-24 18:49:50

My son once washed his passport, what it was doing in his jeans pocket I will never know.
He was coming home for Christmas so had to get a temporary one from the embassy.
I have asked all my 3 to check the dates on their passports so they don’t get caught out.

Have they dropped down the back of the drawers like mine did recently🫣had the place turned over looking for hours kept in bedside drawers.

fancythat Mon 15-Apr-24 17:55:09

Have you shown them to someone, since Dec/January?

crazyH Mon 15-Apr-24 17:52:13

Oh dear - haven’t found it yet?

CanadianGran Mon 15-Apr-24 17:50:00

Since passports don't get used very often, try to visualize the last time you used them and go over the journey. Is there a particular jacket or handbag you use when travelling? Did you need them for ID at a government office?

I find trying to relax and visualize the last time I used something helps.

My late son in law lost his passport and found in in the lining of the car boot !!! Don’t ask

Lovetopaint, can you ask a family member or good friend to look for them? I know this means having someone else searching through your personal stuff but quite often another pair of eyes see what we don't. I do hope you find them though.

Yes have asked my dh as he is usually really good at finding things for me.

Have you looked under the front seats in the car? It’s also worth checking the drawer mechanism, I once overfilled a drawer and found something had wedged into the back of the drawer above about a year later.

Visualise the last time you had them and what you might have been wearing. Could they be in the pocket of a winter coat or jacket that doesn’t get worn much?

Lovetopaint037 Mon 15-Apr-24 16:57:34

Actually renewed in 2022 so yes probably blue. Hope they haven’t been thrown away by mistake but as I sit and tear things up I can’t see that happening. Tomorrow I am starting on another drawer in another room. Having a gin and tonic now to help calm me down. ❤️❤️❤️to you all.

BlueBelle Mon 15-Apr-24 16:54:59

I d look exactly where you wouldn’t put it
Could you have laid it some worktop and it slide down the back
I find it strange when people call them blue passports mine is definitly black

One of our daughters ‘lost hers’. Years ago. She was frantic as was about to have another holiday soonish after coming home from one. Her husband pulled the chest of drawers away from the wall and it dropped to the floor! Relief. She had stuck it on top (of stuff) thinking ‘I’ll be using it again soon’ probably.
Worth checking?

Thank you again. I have been through. The same drawer again and again. Pulled chest of drawers out along with every drawer. Been through.contents. Had every handbag out - so many collected over some years. Searching through filing cases. The whole thing is mad. Now feel terrible so trying to relax and then start again. You are all so kind.

Personally, I would give up at this point.
Not worth all your anguish?

Personally, if I lose things, they do turn up, but about 4 months later.

muckandnettles Mon 15-Apr-24 16:31:40

My son found his passport down the back of the fridge - wasn't even looking for it at that point.

Callistemon21 Mon 15-Apr-24 16:29:02

As Oopsadaisy said

You have checked with the building society, of course, and anyway they would have contacted you. Wouldn't they? 🤔

Callistemon21 Mon 15-Apr-24 16:26:24

Esmay

Say a prayer to St Anthony .
I do and I'm not actually a Catholic .

Yes, he's excellent and usually helps.

Dear St Anthony
Full of grace
Lead me to their hiding place.

That’s a good point, OldFrill. DH’s passport is blue now, but I still find myself looking for two red ones when we go on holiday.
